21  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / knee length jacket - crazy print!! on: April 24, 2007 08:55:41 PM
Well, the print isn't that crazy but when I way buying it I thought, OMG! that is a bit much, but with neutrals underneath it isn't bad!

I haven't put the buttons on yet so I had to hold it together...made it about 2 months ago but I really procrastinate when it comes to button holes!

Side shot
I lined the pockets with a dark blue fabric but I got a bit tired of working on the jacket and didn't line the rest of it, plus it would have made it a bit heavy for late spring around here.

The buttons!!
I really love them...I think it's the first time I've actually bought buttons too...I usually raid my mom's enormous stash!  Sorry they are so blurry!  The pattern calls for 6 buttons, maybe 8 but I only plan on putting two right under the bust.
22  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Awesome new boho skirt!! on: April 19, 2007 01:24:37 PM
I finished this earlier this week and love love love it!  The pics on the dress form didn't turn out great so I had to use my timer and take pics with it on.

Close-up of the fabric

The fabric is just a quilter's cotton (sale at JoAnn's!) and the pattern is McCalls #5056 (sale...again) but there was not a yardage allowance for contrast.  The skirt calls for 5 5/8 yards total and by looking at the pattern pieces quickly I decided that the goddets took about twice the yardage - I ended up buying 4 yards of the goddet fabric and 2.5 yards of the panel fabric.  I had quite a bit extra goddet fabric but I had to open it up and then I folded it in fourths so I only had to make one cut.

Anyways!  Feedback is appreciated!
23  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Closet full of old jeans? on: April 15, 2007 10:15:19 PM
I made these a while back and sold them to the daughter of a coworker.  I thought it was so great that a high schooler was using these and bragging that they were made for her!
I didn't sew up the zipper so it's like a secret pocket!
I have way too many old pairs of jeans in my fabric closet now because I was going to make these for a youth art festival in my hometown but I ended up not having the time to make them.

24  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / tie-front blouse..yay cute birdies! on: April 15, 2007 09:58:14 PM
Hi everyone!  I finished this shirt about a month ago and thought I'd post for a little feedback.  It's probably the best finishing work I've ever done as I flat felled every seam rather than using my serger and actually ironed everything as I went (usually can't make myself do that!)
But, it is my own design and I'm totally obsessing about it right now!

25  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Grommet setter? on: April 15, 2007 10:01:12 AM
I have had trouble setting grommets on my corsets for a long time - for some reason they used to turn out better than they have with the last few projects (which, unfortunatly I spent more money and time on than my first ones) so I remembered that I was going to treat myself to a free-standing grommet setter like this one:
Does anyone have any suggestions?  What should I look for in one of these, should I get the hole punch die (I've heard you shouldn't use these and should make an 'X' for the hole)  I don't want to spend this amount of money on a unitasker and not be happy with it!
Any suggestions are appreciated!
