1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / BIG magnets on: April 03, 2008 09:27:33 AM
So, my friend who works in HVAC gave me about 2 dozen magnets.  They use them somehow to test the AC units, and then they throw them away.  Thing is, they're big!!  They're rectangular shaped, about 1 inch by 3/4 inch by 3/4 inch.  Too big to use to make fridge magnets.

Does anyone know if it's possble to cut them?  I thought about trying to do it on my table saw, but they're MAGNETS, and I just had visions of them sticking to the saw blade, and then getting flung off when they hit the table, and being impaled by magnets.

Barring that, any ideas what I can do with them?  I hate to get rid of them, and really want to use them somehow, but I'm stumped.
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / anyone ever break a presser foot? on: April 30, 2007 03:29:02 PM
i was hemming some pants, using an overcast stitch (don't have a serger) to keep the raw edges from unraveling.  my machine has a special foot just for this stitch- the foot has a little loop of wire inside the opening, which makes the "/\" part of the overcast.  somehow, my needle hit the little wire loop!!!  broke the needle AND the presser foot!  snapped that little loop of wire right in half! my machine's no longer in production, so i don't even know if i can replace the foot anymore!  i've gone to several online dealers, and nobody carries it.   Sad

so, now i don't even know if i can use the overcast stitch ever again.
