1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: "In the Wood" Cropped hoodie on: January 28, 2008 04:55:44 AM
Great job! It looks adorable. I always have trouble getting cropped sweaters/hoodies to fall right, but that looks perfect!
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: Advice for shower curtain shopping bag please on: January 27, 2008 05:09:33 PM
Use interfacing/lining, double rows of stitching, and maybe even an extra row of zig-zag stitching to reinforce.

If you're really nervous, you can also reinforce the insides of the seams with a thick layer of a strong glue.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Simple Mitten Pattern? on: January 22, 2008 07:24:20 AM
One of the simplest patterns I've found is actually more of a "recipe" from Knitty's "Mittens 101" article. The math may look scary at first, but actually the process is very simple and will work with any yarn/gauge!

These don't have a tapered tip, but I think it would be very easy to change them to have one.
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Pattern ideas for a recital dress on: January 22, 2008 07:19:21 AM
Here are a few that are modest (at least by my standards) and simple:

Vogue V1025

Vogue V2026
Vogue V8408

Hope those are helpful!
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Is Ravelry impacting your Craftster use? on: November 09, 2007 06:56:12 AM
I think Ravelry is affecting my "life" use.... and I just got my invitation last night. (I'm "Talia" on Ravelry... feel free to friend me!) Then again, I think there seems to be a "first week" syndrome where you go crazy playing with the features and putting up things in your notebook.

However, Craftster's boards are still unique. I feel like they can't be replaced, since they go across so many different crafts. I've seen a lot of cross-referencing between boards, too... Something you won't get on Ravelry.
6  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Re: Fine Feathers the Hippogriff on: October 15, 2007 05:02:06 AM
I just saw a "life-size" plush Hippogriff at FAO Schwartz and let me tell you... This is better. Soooo cute!!!
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: My Little Piggie Pirate on: October 15, 2007 04:56:34 AM
Amazing you are a genius! And it will keep her head warm too!

I was going to say... If you live up north, it solves that problem of being too cold for trick or treating!

Awesome project... I bet your daughter will be the best-costumed kid in her class!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: I'm waaaay behind on this one.....here's my calorimetry on: October 15, 2007 04:52:37 AM
I love this project in that yarn! It's nice and simple and shows off the pattern of the yarn.

Isn't this a great pattern? Cute, useful, and with instant gratification. I've been whipping them up like crazy for gifts.
9  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Production Design Board (props, sets, costumes...) on: October 11, 2007 09:35:05 AM
I work a lot on production designing and art directing for community theater and independent/student films.. I think it would be interesting to have a place to talk about making prop guns, fake blood, turning your ugly apartment into something that looks like a penthouse without spending penthouse levels of money.... The sort of things that are specific to the "illusion" of art direction (since a lot of specific projects on other boards are about making the "real thing")

I've used craftster a LOT in my research for projects, but it would be cool to have a board where you can discuss the illusions we can make with a glue gun and some scrap materials.

Any thoughts?
10  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Discussion and Questions / Re: Death is fluffy - amigurumi and other crochet questions on: October 11, 2007 09:26:06 AM
No, that's definitely helpful! I think I might start with a reference, then. I definitely want the "cutesy" look - nothing realistic at all since I haven't even cast Death yet, hehe. A picture reference might help, though... Maybe I'll break out the sketchbook.

Thanks for your advice!!!
