1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday May 21 on: May 21, 2010 04:26:01 PM
Just me?
The New Hampshire wool and sheep festival was a few weekends ago, I got a boat load of stuff. The dark brown/black is llama, and the lime and purple is border leicester. I started knitting a shawl with the single. The llama is a 2 ply.

2  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / unspun pencil roving question on: July 30, 2009 09:58:36 PM
I would like to knit a sweater, but I am unemployed and dirt poor. I have two cakes of unspun pencil roving in the same color, about 500 yds each. That is around the amount I need for the sweater I would like to knit. The pattern calls for bulky weight yarn, which unspun pencil roving kinda is. I know some people knit with it unspun but do you think it will fall apart or not be a good idea? I'm afraid to spin it because lately all I've been producing is DK weight and I don't have anything to ply it with to make it bulky spun. Any suggestions?
The pattern I would like to make is the Ron Weasley sweater in the Charmed Knits book, adult Small.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / cast on for bella mittens? on: July 11, 2009 07:27:16 PM
I only know one method of casting on, and has so far served me fine. I recently knit up bella's mittens, I'm sure a lot of you are familuar, I love the way they look, except the way the edge curls up where the cable is (where it is k only not ribbing), I think it may be solved with a different method of casting on, any one know which method would be best? Thanks!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / what to do with 99 yds? on: November 21, 2008 05:18:00 AM
I recently found three small balls of angora yarn on clearance, although they were only 33 yds each, I nabbed the last three. so I have approx. 99 yds of deliciously soft black angora, but I have no idea what to do with it. I was thinking maybe a cowl, but i dunno. Any ideas?
5  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / where can I buy used? on: November 12, 2008 07:18:05 PM
I know I want an ashford country spinner wheel, but a new one is $500, and they are the same price on ebay. I want the country spinner because I am looking for a large orifice wheel for making fancy yarns. Anyone know where I can get a decent price on a new or used one?
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / crochet today cloche on: September 08, 2008 07:08:25 PM
i found vanna's choice baby on sale at michaels and knew i wanted to make this hat, the color choice wouldn't be my first for a hat, with red hair and all, but it's ok. Quick to crochet with 2 strands at once. I didn't think I would really like the shape, but I actually really like it, now every chick on my christmas list will get one. I also had some 'help' from my new friend, Harvey.

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / walmart bamboo needles on: August 31, 2008 08:21:45 PM
So I work at a craft store, and although I get a discount, that doesn't make it ok to spend my whole pay check there. So I went to walmart and got some of the bamboo needles they had there, but they arn't smooth, the stitches don't slide well and I couldn't even cast on with one set cause the tips were all jagged. Is there a way to smooth these out, with a wax or something? thanks!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / will this work? on: August 05, 2008 08:11:24 AM
I am new to knitting, but I have my stitches down. I want to make this pattern: http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/60468.html?noImages=0 lionbrand swing jacket, I have made the crochet version, and I want to make a knit one, I already bought yarn for it, but it tells you to knit st the whole thing, or garter stitch, but I like the way stockinette stitch looks much better. So if I k1 row, p1 row, will it still come out ok?
9  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / I think I can, I think I can...*added pics!* on: May 19, 2008 05:55:59 AM
Well, I just graduated Saturday (yay!), and I had talked about getting a wheel cause I was kinda getting sick of just looking at the fiber friday pics and drooling. So when I opened all my cards and got money I was like "sweet, now I can buy a wheel!" and then my boyfriend comes around the corner with one! I was so surprised! He's amazing...anyways, so I am now the proud owner of a babe, double treadle. I am so anxious to actually try it, but I'm off to buy some fibers today, wish me luck! I really want to have something for this fiber friday.

I spent all yesterday spinning away. Three bobbins later, I am one pencil roving cake down. It was easy, since there is no drafting involved, I might try and attempt some drafting today, or maybe take a break. I am getting a sewing machine too, so it's gonna be learning over load. I have to put them on my myspace cause the pics are so big.
It is taking forever for me to upload them, but I am doing it as we speak, so if they arn't up now, they will be in a few hours!
10  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / total newbie on: May 13, 2008 07:35:40 PM
I want to start spinning and I want to start by making my own drop spindle, and i had this crazy thought, couldn't you spin cotton balls? you'd need a carder, which i looked up and can't believe how much they are, and I'm cheap so, to me it looks like a pet brush, would it be possible to get a pet brush and use it like a carder? like I said, I have never spun or anything so I'm asking before I waste money on stuff. feed back please!
