1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Gift for friend leaving on study abroad program on: August 11, 2008 08:14:34 PM
My friend is leaving for Vienna for at least a couple months, maybe even a whole year. She's been a super awesome friend to me this summer and I'd really like to make her something...but I have no idea what. I'd consider making some sort of journal, but I'd like to brainstorm a bit more before settling on that. Any ideas on something that might be thoughtful as she's traveling & will show my appreciation?
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Gift Ideas for my Boyfriend's Birthday! on: March 21, 2007 12:13:59 PM
My boyfriend's birthday is in May and he is going to turn 22.

We're in a long-distance relationship right now, and last year I didn't do very well with the present thing for his birthday, so I really want to make it up this year. More than anything, he'd appreciate it if I made him something, I think. Cash isn't exactly free-flowing for us lately, either, so it'd be the thrifty thing to do, also.

He loves: Heroes, Harry Potter, me, music, guitars, (he's a musician), stripes, reading, and he used to be crazy about the show LOST but it's not so great anymore, so perhaps that ship has sailed. Hmm.

I was thinking of making him bedsheets...haha, it sounds dumb initially, but I thought maybe I could make him a pillowsheet with my picture on it, somehow? Or my profile so it was like I'm next to him on the pillow? That sounds pretty cheezy but he might like it. I thought I could make bedsheets to go along with it, but I'm not sure exactly what I'd put on them. Or I thought I could make him a Harry Potter themed bedsheet set.

Orrr take the month to get better at sewing and make him a Harry Potter read-a-long stuffed Harry Potter character to have with him when he reads the much anticipated Deathly Hallows book.

I don't watch Heroes, but if anyone has any related ideas for that, I'd appreciate them very much. Or if anyone has gotten their musician significant other a cool present, do tell!

Do any of these ideas sound good?
Please respond with any comments/suggestions Cheesy
3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Sewing Machine Instruction Manual on: March 21, 2007 10:36:19 AM
Hmm I looked around to see where else to post this but I couldn't find a more appropriate place.

I bought a Singer Fashion Mate 257 machine the other day, at a garage sale. It didn't come with instructions, though, and being a verrrry new sewer, I need them! Has anyone gotten sewing manuals online without having to pay for them? The Singer website wants me to pay $15 just for the manual, which seems a bit ridiculous. I've looked around all over online and I can't seem to find the manual anywhere else that is valid.

Has anyone been in the same position, or could at least help me figure out how to thread my machine?
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Fortune Cookies! on: February 09, 2007 08:39:44 PM
I got a kit for making a mini take-out box from The Paper Source.
Instead of putting chocolates, etc. inside, I decided to make mini paper fortune cookies out of pretty paper, with personalized fortune cookie fortunes inside.
The fortune cookies are adorable, but I need suggestions for the fortunes!
The more puns involved, the better!
My boyfriend and I are big dorks that way Tongue
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Creating a blank "digipak" on: January 19, 2007 02:26:24 PM
My boyfriend is a musician and he's recording an album on his home computer right now. He's amazing and makes it sound professional; check out his myspace to listen to some tracks www.myspace.com/tinytimemachinemusic

He wants to use digipaks instead of jewel cases to put his CDs in.
They look like this: http://www.the-digital-audio.co.uk/digip4p.gif
Unfortunately, few people sell blank ones online, and he thought the ones he did see looked really cheap considering their price.

Does anyone know anything about hand-making them...?
I'd love to, but I'd be making about fifty, from cardboard.
I'm not sure anything I could make myself would end up not looking incredibly cheap.

It's not a normal crafty-thing so it's sort of a long shot but please share ANY suggestions/comments.
