3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Papa's Scrabble Board on: October 17, 2008 06:18:01 AM
This is both beautiful and brilliant!  Your father addressed all of the little challenges associated with Scrabble and created a wonderful heirloom as well.  What a clever and useful piece of work...thanks for sharing it!
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Cheap, eco-friendly, and a few bananas short of a bunch... on: October 12, 2008 05:58:39 AM
Bananagrams is a totally addictive word grid game similar to Scrabble, but there's no board, and everyone plays their own letters at the same time.  Here's a link to their site which explains things a little more clearly.

I'll post the banana bag tut in a few days...things are crazy here at the moment (which, of course, explains why I was making stuff at midnight to begin with)...

Here's the tile breakdown, if anybody wants to make their own set:

    * 2: J, K, Q, X, Z
    * 3: B, C, F, H, M, P, V, W, Y
    * 4: G
    * 5: L
    * 6: D, S, U
    * 8: N
    * 9: R, T
    * 11: O
    * 12: I
    * 13: A
    * 18: E
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Cheap, eco-friendly, and a few bananas short of a bunch... on: October 11, 2008 09:38:46 PM
I played Bananagrams today at a friend's and I'm totally addicted.  Of course, I wanted a set to play at home, and wasn't so keen on spending 15 bucks to get one...

Since I have a tendency to pick up Scrabble games at yard sales and hang on to them, I assembled my own set in about 45 minutes using the following materials:

144 hoarded Scrabble tiles
1 old yellow tshirt from my stash
1 nylon drawstring from DS's old backpack

I'm as pleased as punch, and fighting the strong desire to freezer paper stencil the logo into my banana bag!

8  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Fingerspelled ASL cookies on: March 10, 2008 04:53:18 AM
This is FANTASTIC!  As a deaf ed major in college, I was always looking for fingerspelling cookie cutters, but never had any luck.  It never occurred to me to use a hand cookie cutter (duh!) and position the fingers myself...Needless to say, I'll be making these with my 3rd and 4th grade ASL class!  Thanks for the inspiration.

9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: Fifties Kitchen Cupboard...help? on: January 24, 2008 02:19:10 PM
I'd probaly scrub it up and then get some nifty retro chrome canisters to hold all of my cooking goodies.  I often pick these up in the thrift shops, and can get a set of three for 5-8 bucks on a good day.  The piece is fabulous---I wouldn't do anything else to it!

10  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: Doll for my daughter on: January 16, 2008 02:44:51 PM
This is beautifully done!  Did you use a pattern, or freehand it?  I made one for my daughter's 3rd b day, and was amazed at the amount of effort that went into it.  How did you make her hair?  Really a beautiful job!
