11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / cozy fleece cowl made from bottom of ill fitting shirt. on: December 13, 2011 12:25:27 PM
I love cowls, I have been planning on knitting one, but then I was inspired to make this one out of  a thermal t shirt that was too small and a scrap of fleece I had on hand.

I really love it, it is soft and cozy, like a blanket for your neck. So if you have any t-shirts and fleece laying around, I would suggest making yourself one. Super easy and fast to sew up. I am sure most of you can figure out how I made it but If you are interested I posted a tutorial on my blog.
12  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Sriracha....its for christmas. Recycled sriracha bottle ornament! on: December 13, 2011 12:40:50 AM
Recently I was admiring a bottle of sriracha.  Soooo pretty and Christmas colors too. I just knew I had to make something with the bottle. Luckily I work at a place that uses sriracha like crazy so I brought a empty bottle home to contemplate, and this it what I came up with.

The tree is the bottle top and puff paint.

this part is the front of the bottle ironed "flat", and red felt, green yarn.
The two pieces will be connected and hang over a branch on a Christmas tree. I will post action photo's once the paint dries. I was too excited not to share the results right away.
Also I want to add a star to the top of the tree.  does anyone have any suggestions on what to make it out of?

13  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Another Necklace/tie on: November 30, 2011 09:05:35 AM

I made another necklace thing. A little different style.
I am having a little trouble sewing the button holes. If anyone has some tips or tutes on sewing perfect button holes, and not ripping out the stitches accidentally when cutting them open, I would appreciate any help.

I think this one could be really cool with the right outfit, my favorite old black tshirt doesn't really do silk justice.
14  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Vintage tie recon on: November 29, 2011 09:34:06 PM
I love old men'''s ties, but I never know what to do with them. So I came up with this. What do you think? too weird? or just weird enough to be cool.

15  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / So, I made even more Pickled Eggs! I'm obviously addicted. on: November 24, 2011 08:52:34 PM

More pickled eggs!
I made some Thai pickled eggs, and some Moroccan pickled eggs.

The Moroccan spiced eggs were the best! So yummy, I used a spice mix called Ras el Hanout, it has a lot of spices cayenne, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, turmeric, to name a few.  Will definitely be making this recipe again as sadly we ate them all in one sitting
full recipe can be found on my blog
16  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Knit hankerchief scarf, 2 hour present! on: November 21, 2011 01:03:54 PM
I knit this for my friend who moved to wisconsin. I needed it done fast so I chose this pattern from the book Last Minute knit gifts.

I love the way it turned out. I have decided to knit several more for xmas gifts. The book claims that this is a two hour project. It took me like four hours, I guess I am a slow knitter.
As usual I wrote more about it on my blog.

18  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Suggestions to fancy up a scarf on: November 15, 2011 06:54:24 PM

I am making this scarf for a friend, I want to add some embelishments to make it look more western but not too cheesy. Does anyone have any suggestions?
19  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Ice cream made with homemade rice milk! on: September 21, 2011 09:06:44 AM
While reading my new book Ice Cream the Whole Scoop by Gail Damerow, I was intrigued by the Rice Cream section. The book explains how to make rice milk by soft cooking rice and blending it with water.  This rice milk can then be used in any ice cream recipe!  So I had to try it. Here are the results
Pandan Flavor

Chocolate Banana

They both turned out really good!

The recipes and a lot more info are on my blog.
20  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Pontack Sauce great use for elderberries! on: September 16, 2011 11:51:27 AM
Came across this recipe in an English Preserving cookbook. Elderberries are ripe right now, so I am always looking for more ways to use them.  Mostly because I love foraging for food.  Here it is the pontack sauce. You are supposed to use it in gravy and on meats, kind of like a Worcestershire sauce.  It isn't really sweet at all. It is spiced and complex. Will be making this again next year.
