i know these are so easy, they hardly fit the word "craft", but they are still fun and i love them.
anyone else like to make paper snowflakes?

more.. snow1   snow2   snow3   snow4   snow5

(or if you aren't scissor-inclined, make e-flakes! haha. like this one)
42  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / help with Lava Lamp costume mechanics? on: September 24, 2005 01:29:32 PM
i'm thinking of going as a lava lamp this year, but only if i can be a working lava lamp.

any thoughts on how to go about it?
the cheesy route would be balloons and a fan, but.. i dunno.

i will probably have a battery-operated light shining from the bottom.
here's my rough sketch of where i will be:

43  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Arrr! Pirate Kit for all Ye Land Lubbin' Mates! on: May 01, 2005 09:59:54 PM
i found this to be perfect for my boyfriend's birthday.. he absolutely loved it!!
luckily, i have a key to his house, so i snuck the whole thing inside while he was at work one morning.

here is the treasure chest:

and here it is all set up:

lots of pics, so i made them links for slow connection folks.
i filled it with:

gems
oranges
sea shells
clay pirate coins
etched bottle of rum
pirate cutlass (also clay)
scurvy prevention pamphlet
pirate shanties (ok, it was really a ray charles cd)
beach towel (sorry, the pirate flag was out of stock!)
tickets to a pirate show (the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy movie)

and i had clues, like a treasure map and message in the bottle, leading to the treasure trove.

44  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / mom's knockoff handiwork on: April 08, 2005 07:41:03 AM
my mom made this quilt with only the pottery barn catalog picture for reference.

not that i'm condoning design copying (she didn't make any money off this).. but i just wanted to show off her work.  Wink

(oh yes, to the right is my foot for scale.)

45  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / simple green necklace set on: February 03, 2005 04:34:05 PM
whipped this up today to match a slip dress.. i'm wearing it all to a valentine's dance.
i used some peach colored bead string, so it looks all floaty on me.   Cheesy

46  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / stripey purpley scrub skirt on: January 24, 2005 09:15:54 PM
i followed the outline of an A-line skirt i have onto newspaper, and then broke it up into 6 sections. then i tore up some of my mom's old scrubs.. it closes with a zipper between sections.. so it's a funky diagonal zipper  Wink which i love. it has a jagged hemline, too.

47  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / YAY!! easy peasy boy wallet & embroidery TUTORIAL UP on: January 24, 2005 09:14:08 PM
you need:

fabric
bias tape
clear vinyl
invisible thread (home dec thickness)
embroidery floss

that's it.
i actually made a few prototypes out of paper before stitching this together..
a xmas present for the boy.

the embroidery is a fluffy-fishstick thing from Don Hertzfeldt's "Rejected"
48  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / pet shrines on: December 19, 2004 08:29:53 AM
my dear best friend lost 3 pets in the last year. and her 18-yr old kitty just suffered a heart attack. so along with her christmas/solstice presents i decided to include some pet shrines.

i mod-podged paper over some altoids tins and inside the lids.
then hot-glued some tea-lights, crystals, and a card stating each crystal's metaphysical properties.
finally, i put a little felt creature up on the lid to represent the passed animal.

i wasn't really sure what all to do, so i left space for her to write or add things to the shrine.
what have others put in their pet shrines? i haven't seen too many examples..

49  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / all the bells & whistles! on: December 04, 2004 09:06:41 AM
just finished my first proper purse! it's a christmas present for a friend of mine, who needs something less serious to carry all her stuff around.

big surprise! it's a jordy bag.  Grin
with a lining, and a pocket, and a snap to keep it closed, and Sublime Stitching embroidery, and sequins too!!
there was supposed to be more.. more sequins or beaded fringe, or something. but alas the seams aren't quite in the right place for that.

oh, i also added a little cardboard inset in the bottom to help keep it's shape. i glued some extra fabric over it and then glued it to the lining.

50  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / safety man shirt on: November 27, 2004 11:23:06 AM

it's a safety man shirt for the bf. something like the following:

 Tongue
