yay! i got a lovely tatting kit from betzi..
i think she's afraid of swap inadequacy, since she sent me way too much!  Wink in addition to the tatting supplies and instructions she added some handmade cards, bookmarks, a checkbook cover, and some candy (which i ate right away).

thanks so much!

(haha, i must finish up my kits tonight, but after that, i can't wait to try it!)

can i just say? i have been trying to make this darn thing since before signups ended.

i thought it was such a scathingly brilliant idea, but i can't seem to pull off the execution to my satisfaction. for the love of wensleydale.. you can't tell from the pic but nothing is actually glued together yet. i think i am giving up. but i had to vent some of that crafting frustration.  Undecided

86  made to order burnout fabric in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by noelle on: July 06, 2006 06:26:16 AM
i know it's a longshot, but i'm making a dress i saw in a movie, and i'd like it to be as close to the original as possible.

it looks slightly plush and 3-dimensional in closeup, so i was assuming it's burnout/cutout velvet.. but i suppose it could be chenille or moleskin or suede as well.

as to the design/pattern, i feel like i've seen it before, but don't remember a name for it.
sorry the pic is crappy. it's actually a gold design under the red (not white).

can anyone help me out? i've searched google images and ebay and froogle for hours, but no luck as of yet.
(the closest i've seen are here and here)

having the right search terms is paramount, so if anyone has any ideas..  Smiley

What are the earrings made of? I simply must have the cracker ones.

i used this 3-d craft foam stuff i saw at michael's. i cut the shapes out with a serrated dinner knife.. then colored the paper, and mod-podged it on!

here's a close-up:

i'd be up for round 2!

huzzah! she likes it!  Smiley

i asked Dorkariffic for a t-shirt with gromit or lady tottington on it, and she sent me both!
i'm feeling shy, so here's my dress form modeling:

here's gromit's silhouette in action

and tottie.. my favorite!

(here she is undistorted)

PLUS, she drew the CUTEST bunny on the package! i refuse to throw it out.  Grin

Thanks, Dorkariffic!

89  Re: YAY!! easy peasy boy wallet & embroidery in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by noelle on: June 19, 2006 06:53:57 PM
How to Make One Yourself!

You will need:

3/16 yd medium gauge vinyl
1-  7 1/4" x 6 3/4" piece
1-  4" x 2 3/4" piece

1 package double fold bias tape
2-  7 1/4" pieces
1-  2 3/4" piece
1-  28" piece

5/16 yd fabric (cotton is fine)
1-  16" x 7 1/4" piece
1-  37 1/4" x 2 3/4" piece

*Tips for Sewing Vinyl*
  • Use home dec weight invisible thread.
  • Don't backstitch. Instead, use a tiny stitch length just at the start and end.
  • Never use pins on vinyl. Use weights if you have to.
  • Tissue paper will prevent the vinyl from sticking to your machine. Carefully tear the paper from the seams when done sewing.

Here is a little key for my very sad sketches:

1. Embroider your design, and fold as shown. Sew a 7 1/4" piece of bias tape over the fold, then fold again. This gives extra strength to the bill-pocket, and covers the back of your embroidery.

2. Sew the 2 3/4" piece of bias tape to the smalll vinyl window.

Pleat the long fabric stip into pockets, accordian-style. If you fold accurately, you should be able to get 5 pockets, instead of the 4 I got. I don't know how that happened.

Assemble the pockets under the small vinyl window, but do not sew yet.

3. Place the pocket assemblage on the wallet as shown. Remember, your embroidery part is already folded over at the top. Sew a 7 1/4" piece of bias tape over the lower edge of the pockets/fabric. Then fold it over, as you did the top part.

4. Place the large piece of vinyl on the wallet, and bind all four edges with the long bias tape strip. Sew through all layers, and miter corners as needed. Fold in half for the finished outside.

5. Yes! You are a consumer whore!

Feel free to smack me if that was totally confusing.  Smiley

90  fruity gingerbread.. i forgot to post this! in Winter Holidays by noelle on: June 15, 2006 07:31:03 PM
yes, this was ages ago, and i just stumbled across the pictures.
baking was a nightmare because of my supersensitive smoke detector..  Roll Eyes and it turned out messier than i hoped.

BUT
i. love. the. roof.

also, one should remember for future reference, that winter is not really that cold in texas, and your butterscotch doorstep may melt when the sun peeks through the window. ahahah.
