11  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: travelling sock monkey on: June 20, 2007 09:28:24 PM
You could always do what my sister did. On her first holiday abroad with my parents she bought a soft toy while there. After that she photographed it everywhere as did my mum.

I am hoping that I will eventually get more travelling pics. I have given away a sock monkey that might eventually be moving to Australia, posted one out to France and I am making one which is going to Boston.
12  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Knit crochet goodie bag swap - send by 7/16 on: June 20, 2007 09:23:50 PM
I am very much looking forward to this swap. It will be my first knitting related swap. I go shopping next week and then the following week I will be out of town for a few days but there is a huge craft centre where I am going. Will have to have a looksy while I am there.

I love that idea of the gnome going around the world. At least your friend had a sense of humour about it. Do you think it might have been someone she knew?

I liked the travelling Kombi van too. Great pics.

My friend took hers too Italy. Here is Hamish McSporran holding up Pisa.

I sent out my parcel today. Can't wait for it to get there although a bit nervous too.
15  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Used Book Swap Gallery! on: June 18, 2007 01:06:45 PM
I have received my parcel from zero cool;

She sent me a copy of "The Island Of Doctor Moreau" by HG Wells. I have read a few of his books but not this one plus it is such a cool little book. She also sent me "Jewelry Craft Made Easy" by Bernada French as I am wanting to learn Jewellery making. She then spoiled me by also sending me a knitting magazine as she knows I am also wanting to learn lace knitting.

Last but not least here are the lovely bookmarks she made for me.

I have finished the bookmark now as well as picked out two books. I plan on sending on Wednesday. Will send a PM as soon as I do.

Thank you so much Zero Cool, I love it.

I have two books picked out. I just need to make the bookmark.
17  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: What is a band geek to do? on: June 18, 2007 12:42:03 AM
As a former band geek too I also love this. Your stitching is very neat. I think it would look cool with musical notes going round the back.

Takinanap, I love your sock monkeys. I especially like their faces.

cadillac.tramp, I got my socks from a high street fashion store. Usually top shop and Dorothy Perkins. You can't get the traditional red heal socks here so I had to make do. My friends seem to get a kick out of the designs on the socks as well as the actual monkey.

I have made some more. One is going to a friend who lives in France. Another will be taken to Alten Towers next month and I have promised to make one for my mum who will take it to Boston. I also made my first socktopus.

20  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Crafty Penpals! on: June 07, 2007 12:25:15 AM
Like every one else here I have been wanting to get back into pen palling for a while now. I used to write regularly when I was in high school.

My name is Karen, I'm 27 and I'm from Scotland. I have lived here all my life and haven't seen much of the rest of the world (would like to change that given time).

Crafts wise I am into trying anything new. I knit (yet to try anything beyond a scarf), cross stitch, embroider and I'm into paper crafts (mainly card making and scrapbooking). I also make sock monkeys for people who are going travelling (only if they promise to take photo's of the monkeys on their travels). At the moment I would love to learn to crochet, quilt and make jewellery.

Others, I am a huge sci fi fan. I love Dr Who (old and new), Torchwood, Star Trek (all of them), charmed, babylon 5, Blakes 7, Firefly and Heroes. I am sure I have missed something out there. To my surprise I have also found that I like House and just recently become addicted to Greys Anatomy.

I love to read and will read almost anything. Douglas Coupland is my favourite author but I also like many others. As well as general fiction I enjoy sci fi and fantasy. Just now I am trying to get into graphic novels.
