1941  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Small Steampunk Swap (Signups through 4/15, Sendouts 5/17) on: April 15, 2011 09:19:06 AM
We're up to 20 people! I really can't wait to get started... I was on Facebook yesterday and I found a few Steamy groups that you could check out if you're on Facebook. I can post some links if anyone wants them... but I've decided I really like the dirtier (as in dirt, not sexy) side of Steampunk a lot. Mechanics and urchins, all grubby, and they look more "worn in" I guess.

Hee, you're talking to someone who compulsively picks up bits of rusty metal.  Yeah, the grubby mechanics side is cool. I also squee over the elegant stuff! Soo many variations to steampunk, how could one ever get bored?
1942  Category Challenges / Reusing/Recycling/Recrafting: Challenge Entries / Re: Theme ideas on: April 14, 2011 09:50:54 PM
Maybe an idea involving bathroom plastics?  I'm thinking, deodorant containers, shampoo bottles, disposable razors, plastic toothbrushes...  I can't seem to think of anything useful to do with any of those things, and it seems like something that almost everyone would have some of.

That's an idea. I like the making stuff out of packaging idea, too.
Or, how about making art? Made out of stuff that would normally be thrown away? Not necessarily a piece to hang on the wall. Sculpture would work, heck, anything that could be called art.
Or a spring themed challenge? Stuff for a garden?

I have a stack of (unnamed object) that I've been saving to recycle into a project like this! Not quite sure how yet....hopefully once I see what my partner likes inspiration will strike.

Hee, I had to add the button jewelry book to your package after seeing how much you like buttons. I had fun making your presents. The pincushion ring was put together when I had a long wait at the coffeeshop one day, the barista would check my progress occasionally.  Smiley

And-
*jawdrop* That bag is amazing! Sheepblue, you are very talented.

Y'know, when I filled out my questionaire, and it said list types of steampunk you like/dislike, I said-"it;s all good, just nothing too creepy. But after all, there's no such thing as zombiepunk yet Grin"
Heh. Little did I know! I do want to go see Sucker Punch though.

The Victorian gallery has good inspiration, too-lots of overlap with steampunk.
