Sold to kayrun - custom Teesha Moore patch (plus an extra because I was enjoying myself). The birdie was made by RubyTuesday, and I received the embroidered leaf on the left from nilmerg (then turned it into a patch).

4  Re: STS Spring Market 2017 SU 04/02/17-04/15/17swap ends 05/28/17 in ACTIVE SWAPS WHERE SIGN-UP PERIOD HAS CLOSED by calluna on: April 02, 2017 06:27:07 PM

This California-based mobile shop is CLOSED for a few days while I fight off a seasonal bug.

Items crafted by a non-smoker in a smoke-free and no-pets environment, with minimal fragrances.

Soliman handspun bamboo - about 160 yards. There are some breaks in this single-ply yarn; I apologize...1 point.

Handspun alpaca shawl - photo forthcoming...rib stitch shawl made with my handspun alpaca yarn, which is thick-and-thin and was previously fulled in a different project I frogged. Crocheted trim 3 points.

Sheath top OR infinity scarf - This can work as either; if you know you dont want it as a shirt Ill remove the straps. Made with gorgeous Plymouth Kudo yarn (Aran weight, 55% Cotton, 40% Rayon, 5% Silk). Also, this has only been tried on for these photos; it is not otherwise used. Smiley 2 points.

Plarn Hanging Guerrilla Gardening Pods - made from grocery bags, these little hanging pouches can be stuffed with soil and a plant cutting and left in a place that needs some life. -- half point for both

Bedroom/Art Studio sign - For the artist with minimal space, this cross-stitch can be framed, hung on the door, and flipped one way or the other, depending on what the room's being used for in any given moment. (: -- 1 point with no frame (If I can find suitable framing materials here, I'll update this)

Mug rug (or Teesha Moore patch) - Front and back shown in photos. I can add an embroidered word if you like, just let me know. 1 point.

Doctor Who Teesha Moore patch - small, and a somewhat obscure reference. Companion Donna Noble once had a huge bug like this on her back that no one could see except a spanish-speaking woman who shouted, "Hay algo en tu espalda!" - half a point.

Christmastime Teesha Moore patches - Half a point each (12 days of Christmas or Chestnuts Roasting), or both for 1 point.

Seal Teesha Moore patch - 1 point.

India print Teesha Moore patch - half a point.

Custom royal crest cross-stitch hoop - The basic outline, from a vintage German pattern book, is complete, but what/who is the royal person/object being celebrated?? You decide. I can also add any words you like. 1 point.

Small custom cross-stitch or embroidered hoopla - Could be, for example, your favorite word (naughty or nice) in ornate art nouveau design, or a design from this site of modern-ish ideas or this one in French with hundreds of cute things. Check with me to discuss before claiming! 1-2 points depending on the project.

Custom Teesha Moore patch - Check with me to discuss before claiming! 1 point.

Scrappy recon journal - A very mixed-paper journal with sewn, 8.5x11 pages. Cloth cover taken from another old book I gutted. 2 points.

Mystery black roving - I just found this at a second hand store and I have so much! It is shiny, fine, and soft, and the staple length isn't very long. It doesn't feel like the bamboo fiber I've used in the past, but I wouldn't rule it out either. I don't have a scale, but I'll liberally estimate in my measurements. 2 points for the whole grapefruit-sized ball.

Sea glass from Mexico - not exclusively glass; there were a couple other neat things that washed up on the tropical shore where I wandered. Half a point for a baggie.

Pick one item with any claim:

Booklet of paint chip cards - Larger than an ATC.

Paper, book pages, and ephemera...I have lots of random salvaged things. Working in a library means more cool discarded paper-based things than I can keep up with! I hope you like dictionary pages, because I want to send you some.

yarn - Patons North America Classic Wool DK Superwash - 1 skein (124 yds), Autumn Spice colorway. I misplaced the ball band.

Wood (or laminate wood-like) bangle to be modified as you see fit.

Copper-colored crafting wire - very bendy (like Phoebe).

White Sage - grown in my previous garden without pesticides, this California native plant is widely considered sacred and burned for purification and blessing. Unsustainable wild harvesting of white sage is rapidly wiping out the plant, so please don't purchase the bundles brought in from the mountains. I can either send you a "wand" of the white sage, or the equivalent amount of loose leaves.

Discarded book: For your altered book project. You don't have to spend any points in my shop to get a book! Currently I have "The Age of Overkill" and "The Needle's Eye", there are no images in the books.

  • Luscious prepped fiber for spinning or felting--batts, roving, etc. I especially need a blend of lizard/iguana greens!
  • jam, preserves, honey, baked yummies, tea, good edible things.
  • natural health/beauty/cleaning/household products

Claims made from me:
to RaraAvis:    Goat bells (.5)
                     Dogs Rule patch (.5)
to kayrun:      Custom TM patch (1)
to watsonc7:   recon art journal (1)

Claims I have made:
from RaraAvis: Ceramic bottle necklace (Hamsa) - 1.5 pts.
                      Velvet bookmark (leaf 1) - .25 pt.
                      Velvet bookmark (leaf 2) - .25 pt.
from LeapFeetFirst: Frosted Pine - 1 pt.

5  Re: STS 2017 Discussion Thread in New Swap Theme Ideas by calluna on: March 31, 2017 06:03:42 PM
Hi folks, I'll be able to join in this round! Yay!

It will be a barebones shop at first, but I do have 5 things. I have various WIPs from long ago and I hope being in the swap again will inspire me to finish (and offer) some of them. Some really need external direction for completion, such as this royal crest cross-stitch:

My original plan was to put a ladybug in the middle, as a gift for a little girl I know who calls herself Princess Ladybug.  Smiley but then I realized 4-yr-olds don't have use for needlework. So, I'll offer a custom hoop in my shop, with the finished piece of your choosing.

6  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap -- January 2016 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by calluna on: February 12, 2016 05:19:15 PM
I apologize for the delay in posting -- I finally got home to find this killer ATC from spikefan, on my "relatively obscure Doctor Who" theme!

Yay!! I immediately thought, "Ooooo, it's Queen Liz!" But then I realized there were also women in red capes in at least one other episode. My money is on Liz, though. Smiley Thanks so much, I love it!

And I have a card to share from artsycandice!

This was from my theme of altered playing cards with female nudity created by women...She nailed it, and this woman is beautiful! Thank you so much!

ETA: I failed to mention that she also included a print of the great painting she completed in the past, shown in others' previous posts. I was really hoping I'd get one too, so I'm very excited to have it!  Kiss

Hooray, I can finally show you Oath Keeper's card! The theme she took on was one of the four elements depicted as a living entity, and this is water:

So sweet! I don't think this scan picks up all the shading sufficiently; it's all soft and subtle and feels very appropriate for Water. Thank you!

9  Re: 50 Projects 2016---Busy Hands are Happy Hands! in Craftalongs by calluna on: January 24, 2016 08:41:20 PM
Here is some of what I've been doing this month:

I ended up with a 5-lb bag of sawdust, so I used some of that with old candle wax, dryer lint, empty toilet paper rolls, and egg cartons to made a variety of firestarters for some friends who have a mountain cabin.

Initially I was heating the candle wax in a glass jar in the oven, which was tedious and messy. Then the crock pot became unusable for food due to cracks, so I tossed a bunch of sawdust in with three candles and melted everything together nicely. I used molds for most of the firestarters, but in the end I was just treating it like cookie dough, rolling it into balls and letting it harden. Wear some kind of gloves if you work with lots of sawdust; doing so got me through this project without a single splinter!  Smiley

On more of the design/tech-y side, a colleague and I presented a poster at a conference this past week, designing the poster (and some infographics that didn't make it into the final poster) on Canva.com.

Here are some completed ATCs, using old scrap photos as starting points. I have a half dozen massive scrapbooks that take up a lot of space and are full of a lot of things I simply don't care about anymore. From these I yanked a large amount of photos, patterned paper, and cardstock, and am on a mission to repurpose as much of it as I can.

One watercolor:

And I respun a bulky yarn I'd first spun last year, to thin it out and get more yardage out of it. No photo of that; I'll post one when I finish spinning all the roving I have left over.

I've done that too! And in fact, I was looking at the photo before reading your text, and I didn't notice that it was backward, I was just thinking, "Oops, that nice card was posted to the discussion thread instead of the gallery..."  Cheesy

I received a rubber stamp (the foam variety) of the "ohm" symbol, and it wasn't until I used it on an ATC--and finished the ATC--that I realized it was backwards:
