7261  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Summer Reading Swap Gallery on: August 04, 2008 07:02:46 AM
I was planning to make some bookplates for my partner, but I felt guilty doing it... I don't use bookplates myself and asked her not to make me any. Didn't seem right to then turn around and make them for her Tongue

Even though I did end up making her one other thing I asked not to get... Wink

I'll be away for a couple of days (but I think I'll have internet), so I won't be able to craft. But, I can check to see what everyone else has crafted!

The hat is adorable, and I like the designs on the bookmarks! Neat book selection. After the last book swap I did, I decided to give the Discworld series a go. I just finished Equal Rites and I really enjoyed it! I'm not a huge sci-fi/fantasy reader (which is strange, because I'm a big science geek, and I love science fiction movies and TV... Fantasy for me is a separate category, I guess...).

I was just in the thrift store and I picked up a canister- it has a white lid with some 70's kitchen fruits & vegetables design on it. So, I'll have to get a little crafty on it first Smiley

And, as I arrived home after another summer rain shower, I realized that this is the year for moss in my yard! It's been so damp, I'm seeing moss in places I've never seen it before! So, I should have no trouble with my harvesting!

You know, I guess I didn't really realize how very DIFFERENT these can all be.  I mean, it was something I knew, but seeing all of the different dolls really makes that sink in.  Wow.

They are all so great!  I love them.  I love how unique and personal they all are.  Smiley

What clever ideas!  Cheesy  Mine, I'm afraid, don't really have a very strong theme.  I just kind of embellished based upon the fabrics I chose to work with.

I'm also pretty impressed and inspired! Unfortunately, I'm too far in to my current batch to change direction, but perhaps if I sign up for a future round, I can think a bit more out of the box for the next crop of dolls!

Love the pirate and the kitty! And, the Wonder Woman made me laugh out loud, as did the peg leg on the pirate, Sarcastra.

Such happiness from such tiny creations...

Holy cow, I love that journal! I love that the stamps are hand carved, and I love the 5-star rating system, and the tabs on the edge! I'm definitely going to have to steal that idea for something else...since I don't use book journals... (The gears are turning...maybe I could make one as an "index" to my favorite recipes in my cookbooks. Then, I could record the recipe, the book it came from, and the page number. I could even use a rating system! And, I could divide it up into tabbed sections like Appetizers, Desserts, etc. Oh, I am so making one of these!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!   Okay, back to the swap at hand...)

The carved book plate stamps are also a cool idea! The next time I give a book as a gift, I might have to include one of these. In fact, I have to make a gift for a young friend pretty soon... I think some stamp carving might be in order, here... Thanks again for the inspiring idea!!

Sorcha, your square came out awesome! And didn't you just have a baby? So, I say that you are #1, and your friends make #'s 2 & 3 out of that whole dealio... So, I think you're safe Wink
Actually, one of them was my co-pregnancy buddy at work (her baby was born the day before mine...yeah, good timing hmm?)  The tally reset on this, lol...

Uh-oh! You'd better make friends with the next pregnant lady you see! Wink

And, zombiecazz, I like the highlighted center of your square. It looks great, and I don't think it looks too wonky!

Another great haul of books! And, that bag is fabulous! And, so sweet, as well!

I've been spending a bit of time in my "book room" (not organized enough to be called a library...yet) and have realized how many books I own that I have not read. So, I've started reading...

I recently read:
Fatal Forecast by Michael Tougias (true story)
Alex Ryan, Stop That! by Claudia Mills (middle school level)

And, I'm part-way through:
Twinkie, Deconstructed: My Journey to Discover How the Ingredients Found in Processed Foods Are Grown, Mined (Yes, Mined), and Manipulated into What America Eats by Steve Ettlinger

Even though I have a ton of books to read, I keep buying more! But, they are a mix of fiction and non-fiction (with a lot of reference books thrown in... not the kinds of things you "read" but peruse...).

I do love books...

oh that raggedy ann is so cute and ganesh and ryo are also fabulous!

You took the words right out of my keyboard! I had a Raggedy Ann doll when I was a kid, and that dotee just brought back a flood of happy memories! And, AlwaysInspired, your dolls are all so unique, I love it! Mine will all bear a strong family resemblance, I think Wink

redstar13- It looks great! I don't have any blue in my house, but my sister is a big fan of blue... so she is a potential gift recipient. It would also be the perfect size for my SIL's trestle style kitchen table! They might have to fight over it if I win in Wink
