11  Craft Swaps / ACTIVE SWAPS WHERE SIGN-UP PERIOD HAS CLOSED / Re: Necklace Swap 2017 (Signups thru July 21; Sendouts Aug. 14) on: July 07, 2017 06:28:25 PM
When I get home (I'm in Canada), I think I'll be joining this swap! I have been planning to start wearing more of my earrings and necklaces when the school year starts, so this could be the perfect motivator!

Tempting...Allow me to ponder this one!

On Friday, I made a jaunt out to a fabric store in The Berkshires of MA to raid their "sweet sixteenths" basket, then had lunch with my brother and my SIL. I was gone all weekend and for the rest of the week, I'll be away. So, I won't get to start matching fabric to people until next Monday!

Thanks, LovelyMiss! While I have at least one Throwback and probably a Zap, I'm glad to know they are not required:)

And, I love the prompts for the next phase of my adventure. I decided what path I'd choose last month, and when I checked the other path (out of curiosity), I was very happy with my choice!

It's the last day to turn in the June Battle Royale!

If you're hoping to craft ALL THE THINGS, in order to be eligible for the special physical reward at the end of season, make sure to have your Battle Royale submission posted tonight by 11:59 pm (central time).  Smiley

Just a quick question... Does crafting ALL THE THINGS mean the Zaps and Throwbacks, or just the prompts?

A note from your organizer...

Now that we have patches that are making their way through the postal system, please (pretty please, with sugar on top) make sure to send me a PM when you SEND and RECEIVE.

I am organizing 2 swaps right now and I don't want to miss anything.

Thanks a bunch!

Wow! What an epic start to the gallery! Those anthropomorphic patches are spectacular, and I love how she recreated the Zipper for you.

The owl and flower patches are gorgeous, but I really love the fat bird patches.

quaggy, the technique that you used for them is really cool! I've seen those Inktense pencils, but didn't realize that they could be used like that on fabric! I might have to add them to my wish list Smiley

Wow! We already have 89 projects pinned on the Pinterest board for this round. Plus, there are a few projects that aren't pinned (let me know if you want me to pin them at any time in the future).

artsycandice, that hummus looks delicious! I have been meaning to try making my own hummus for a long time, but I never have. But, I really should! And, that skateboard deck is amazing. It definitely deserves to be hung on a wall, and not stomped on by dirty sneakers and covered with grip tape. And, your monster shot glass carving and cast came out spectacular. My sister and I tried making a mold once and we had some trouble, so I can appreciate yours even more! And, the lady hearts came out great (and pretty funny and clever, too). I'll bet they were a hit at the Women's March. What a great idea to embellish the screen-printed shirt. You took a neat design and made it even better with your personal touch.

storerboughtcretaions, your felt beagle is adorable, and it was a nice tribute to include the special button. I bet your dad loved it! Your melted pony bead heart came out really good! I love how the colors look like they slightly blended together. I love how cute your Super Sausage came out (and I love how you styled the photo!). Was the pattern from Simply Crochet? I love that magazine!

RedheadWithThread, I never would have thought to make my own cheese sauce, but I'm definitely giving your recipe a try- much better than the orange, chemical-laden stuff from the store! Your LSU wallet came out very nicely! Even though you were sick (hope you're feeling better!), you still got nice straight-looking seams.

gozer, you have given me an idea for gifts I can make for some of my friends and family for Christmas. I am hitting the fabric store and making sets of reusable gift bags and giving them to people for Christmas (wrapped in a reusable gift bag, of course). Now, I just need to remember to pick up some appropriate fabric the next time I pass near the $2.99 a yard store. Did you use any particular tutorial? Also, I like those fingerless gloves. They'd be great for spring and fall when it isn't quite cold enough for the yarn versions. And, I love how you styled the photo for your (very nice) tarot card bag! The T-Rex is awesome!

Ezri_B, those donut holes look tasty! And, when you mentioned adding sausage, it reminded me of the clam cakes we used to eat when I was a kid... and now I am craving them Smiley

laurenb1992, I love that you created art from the memory of your childhood giraffe toy! And, your sock-stealing elf and angry gnome have such great expressions!

Acadian Driftwood, I bet your ferrets enjoy their new playscape! How cute! And, that pizza looks delicious (and now I think I need to have pizza for dinner...). I never think to buy pre-made dough to make my own, but I bet it would be so much tastier if I did! I absolutely love the Osaka subway map that you made for roler. I have a fondness for subway maps with their color-coded lines and misleading sense of scale. Smiley Your lemon cake looks fabulous, and I love how you arranged the strawberries on top. Pardon me while I wipe the drool off of my keyboard.... And, I remember making those friendship bracelets, back in the day. I loved seeing the pattern emerge!

roler, I love beef stroganoff and your version sounds delicious! Your trading card came out great, and I definitely need to remember to follow the adventures of Katsuyuki on Instagram. Your fajita spice blend also sounds delicious (and the fajita looks tasty!). I should try making my own spice blends one of these days!

pishaw13, your costume skills are just fabulous! I love the added details for the entire cast, too! Great idea to add the lace panels to your shirt to make it fit better. Good save! And, your purse came out fantastic! It must have been a challenge to sew through some of those layers!

QueenHobo, your troll doll came out excellent! I love the hair and the jeweled belly button! And, arms are a definite plus. And, that blanket looks nice and snuggly. I really like the pattern you used for the twin baby blankets- just lacy enough to make them lighter, but not too lacy so that fingers and toes don't get caught! And, it's so nice that the blanket that you made for your Grandma will be shared with someone else who needs it!

Calabaza, what a great idea to use a thrifted sheet to make your overalls! They came out great and I'm impressed that you drafted your own pattern for them- they look like they fit you perfectly! And, I used to love to use the store-bought sponge cakes for my shortcake until my roommate made it from scratch. Now, I am a convert, and with the addition of homemade whipped cream? I am in dessert heaven!

LovelyMiss, great notebook covers! I tried to make one once, but couldn't get it to fit right, so I am in awe of your skills! And, those ribbon paper clips are so cute!

ActsOfCraftiness, those beaded skulls are amazing! What do you plan to do with them once they are finished? And, does InstantPot applesauce come out better than in the CrockPot or on the stove? Also, I love the Dad stein with the dates of the kids- so clever, and what a great idea to update it, as needed! Cute cards, too!

Inselaeffchen, the repeated attacks in and around London have just been awful. I love the idea of hanging the hearts around the city, and I'm glad you were able to participate.

And now that you folks have made me extremely hungry with all of the delicious food you've been posting, I think I need to go and hunt down some dinner...

I finally remembered to add in my process photo and a little info about how I made it! Now, I can officially check this swap off of my list Smiley

Since tomorrow is the end of the month, I figured I'd better post my projects tonight so I don't forget tomorrow Smiley

Prompt:  June Battle- Young Boy
Team: Clan of the Makers
Bonus Points: Brain Power
Project Name: Pillow Case
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: I usually keep a pillow and a sleeping bag in the car, and the pillow case on that particular pillow was looking a little worn. So, this past weekend, my mom, my aunt, and I got together to learn how to use our sergers. My mom just got hers and had her first project all lined up, so she decided we should all learn together (my aunt and I have had our sergers sitting and collecting dust for several years). Once I figured out how to get mine to work, I helped my aunt, but my mom's machine wasn't working at all. Turns out that the belt had slipped off, so I re-attached it. Then, we took a break to run to the fabric store where my aunt and I got the fabric for the pillow cases (she picked it out and was making 2 for my cousin). The pattern/instructions that we used was the one for Ryan's Cases for Smiles (a charity that collects pillow cases for children battling cancer and other long term illnesses so they can have a special one for their lengthy hospital stays). While this pillow case is for me, I do have fabric to make some more for donating. And, now that I have learned the basics on my serger, the pillow cases should sew up pretty quickly. I learned a few things while making this one, in terms of using the serger (be careful not to get the pins stuck on the cutting blade, for example) which made it take longer to make. Future pillow cases should be finished in half the time!

Prompt:  Side Quest- UFO Sighting
Team: Clan of the Makers
Bonus Points: WIP It!, UFO bonus: Different shapes
Project Name: 2017 Raindrop Rundown Shirts
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: Our second annual Raindrop Rundown (a run/walk down and back up the school driveway- 1/2 mile each way) was back in April, and I had planned to make shirts for the winners, but life intervened. School ended last Friday, and I finally made them on Thursday night! I had the design all planned out (different cloud shapes with raindrop shapes, plus the shapes of all of the letters) back in April, but hadn't cut, weeded, or ironed on the vinyl. It took several hours on Thursday, but they came out pretty good! Only 2 minor glitches, but unless the shirts are side-by-side, you're not likely to notice (and they're at the bottom of the piles in the photo). I made 6 all together- one for each first place winner (boy & girl) in grades 6-8.
