401  Re: (Superhero) Granny's Daughters Swap R5 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by craftADDchick on: January 19, 2010 04:33:32 PM
Whoo-hoo! I received another excellent bundle of GDs today from koalascout! She sent 2 shades of much-needed red, 2 of blue and 2 of pink (both also much needed). She also sent a fabulous bright orange (think safety cone) and yellow. And a speckled red (not quite a variegated, but very festive) and a BONUS batch of variegateds in a red/orange/yellow color. Thanks a bunch, koalascout!

I think I'm at my target number of 90 for pink and yellow now! Yay, yay, yay! Thanks so much to both of my partners, fantasticmio and koalascout, and to OnePinkHippo for helping get closer to my goal!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Grin Grin Kiss Kiss Kiss

402  Re: 2010 200 Crochet Blocks CAL in Crochetalongs by craftADDchick on: January 18, 2010 01:57:45 PM
I was able to upload my photo, so here it is Wink I used a size E hook and Caron Simply Soft Brites. I also left off the last round, so mine only came out to 4 1/2" (which is great!). I almost left off the last round of the purple, but decided that it would make the "crennelations" more prominent Smiley

It looks a little cock-eyed in the picture, but it's square in real life Wink

And, I was able to flag down a plow guy and he cleared out my parking spot on the street for a mere $10... saved me at least an hour of work and saved my back days of agony Grin

Here's my Willow block! I only did the first 6 rounds, and used an E hook, so it came out on the smaller side, which is good. The center is Vanna's Choice, the next color is Red Heart SS, and the last color is some brand I got at Michael's that I'd never heard of before. I ordinarily wouldn't choose a variegated yarn, but it was sitting right beside the rust-colored Vanna's Choice and it matched so well, I had to use it. Then, I dug through the bag of blue yarn I had to find a matching shade...

This is destined for my motif blanket! I even wove in the ends already Wink

And, I realized that for the blocks that aren't suitable for my motif blanket, I can always use cotton yarn and make them into washcloths Grin

I just printed out the pattern for the Castle's End Square, and I may tackle that tomorrow  Smiley

Number 19! It's the Puff X Square. I like the way the colors came out on the variegated yarn, but I've decided that I don't like the puff stitch very much...

405  Stencilled Mesh Produce Bags in Stenciling: Completed Projects by craftADDchick on: January 14, 2010 04:25:50 PM
So, for Christmas, I made my friend a set of singlet style grocery bags (using the tutorial found here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=177482.0) and I figured I'd make her some produce bags to go with them. Somewhere, I saw that someone had modified a mesh bag (Blink Tidy Totes, purchased at the Dollar Tree) by adding on a decorative fabric panel to the bottom. I was a bit worried that the panel would be too heavy, so instead I cut a stencil of the recycling symbol. I used a piece of card stock for the stencil. I slipped a piece of scrap paper into the bag and taped the stencil in place. I carefully dabbed on the fabric paint and let it dry. I didn't expect the image to be so clear on the mesh, so I'm pretty happy with how they came out. I have 2 blank bags left, so I may be making a set for myself Wink

406  Re: TUTORIAL: Singlet Style Shopping Bag w Pattern (like the plastic shopping bag) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by craftADDchick on: January 14, 2010 04:18:11 PM
I finally finished my first set! I had a momentary glitch when I couldn't get the last seam of the French seam to work, but I realized that I was folding the gusset wrong when I turned it inside out. I messed up the first one (which I'll be re-doing and keeping for myself), but was able to make these 4 for a Christmas gift.

I put a piece of twill tape in the seam along the top edge to make the little hang-on-the-bag-rack loop. I think that for the next set I make I'll use a larger bag. They came out a bit smaller than I expected, but they still came out great, and were very well received Wink

Thanks for such a great tutorial!

408  Re: Harry Potter - Luna Lovegood Scarf - My Take - PATTERN & CHART ADDED! in Crochet: Completed Projects by craftADDchick on: January 14, 2010 04:09:53 PM
Here's my scarf! Well, it's not mine anymore because I gave it away for Christmas. But, I bought way more yarn than I needed (I used just a smidgen under a skein of Naturally Caron Spa yarn- a bamboo/acrylic blend- in color 0005 Ocean Spray).

This is such a great pattern! I did make sure to use a ton of stitch markers to keep track of my starting chain, but after the first row, it was a piece of cake! And, since I still have 3 skeins of yarn left, I can make another one for myself!

Whee! I received from fantasticmio, and she helped to boost my supply of pinks, oranges and yellows (in fantastic shades and lovely soft yarn, too!). Thanks a bunch!

And, as I get closer to my goal of 720, I'm getting antsy... I want to start assembling! So, I guess I should start weaving in the tails Wink

I'm up to 18! Well, technically 18 2/3, but more on that in a bit...

The first one is Textured Stripes, which I really liked making. Very easy, yet looks more complicated...

And a close-up to try to show the texture a bit better (hard to see in the photo because of the variegated yarn):

This one is what I called "Scrubbing Bobbles" and it came about because I had a huge chunk of time to kill while I wasn't at home (which means sitting in the car waiting for something) so I hit Wal-Mart and picked up some stuff, including yarn and a hook (because my emergency crochet supplies were buried in the trunk and it was waaay too cold to go digging). I didn't have a pattern handy (see buried in trunk note...) so I just did a row of about 25 hdc (or sc, I can't remember), and then on the next row, I started with 3 dc, then a 5 dc bobble (or puff, I always mix them up... I didn't have to remove the hook to finish it so whichever one that makes it), and then I finished the row with 4 dc then a bobble across. Then, I just alternated the rows, ending with a row of hdc.

And a close-up to show off the bobble-y goodness Wink

I also made a variation of this one on Christmas Day. I was getting antsy waiting for dinner, so my mom hauled out one that she had started. She had about 7 rows of sc done, so I did a section of the scrubbing bobbles, and ended it with 7 rows of sc. Hence the 2/3 Grin
