1  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Primitive Crafts Board on: October 23, 2007 05:30:57 PM
I think craftster needs to create a primitive crafts board. There are so many people getting into primitive arts and crafts. For example primitive dolls, how to dye/grunge cloth to look primitive, primitive soaps, primitive rag items, such as rag candy canes, rag balls, etc.
I have not found a website that allows users to share their primitive crafts and their ideas.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments......you are all so sweet.
I kinda went by this pattern....http://marloscrochetcorner.com/Round%20Winter%20Purse.html
for the construction but changed a few things as I went. As for the stripes I put them where I wanted them.
You can most definitely felt crochet.....just use Half Double Crochet stitches instead of using a tighter stitch such as Single Crochet because the yarn needs room to expand and bond with each other.
Here is a link to a crochet forum where you can see all kind of felted purses done using crochet.......

Please feel free to pm me if you have any questions while attempting this. I will be more than happy to help.

Thanks to all of you for you nice comments......I am flattered. I did not expect this many replies. I used the tote bag today and it feels so wonderful on my shoulders. I received many compliments at the store and one person did not believe me when I told them I crocheted it, they said I bought it from a store.....so that made me feel good.

SMN..... did your handles stretch on your felted purse?
That is my main concern as to whether the handles will stretch over time. I guess time will tell.......
Thanks for the compliments......

This is my first felting and it is soooo rewarding. I recommend you crocheters to do try this. I am already starting on my next tote. I promise you, it is addicting.
Before I felted this it measured about 16" tall and about 20" wide. I ran it through 2 cycles on the washer to get it shrunk to the size I was happy with. I just estimated I would loose about 5 to 6 inches in height and loose half the width so that way I could get it close to the size I wanted. It was bigger after the first cycle but not as small as I wanted so I ran it through again to shrink it more. I also used almost boiling water to felt it that I poured in when it started agitation, along with 1 cup baking soda and some laundry detergent.
It took me about 2 days to crochet it and that was working off and on through the day. It was worth it!!!!
I finished it yesterday and already have 4 people asking me to make them one.... Smiley
Thanks all of you so much for your nice compliments and suggestions on the lining.....I was thinking that if I add a lining it will take away from the felting but was not sure.

Here is a 100% wool tote I crocheted and then felted in the washer. It is about 11" wide and 12" tall. I am very proud of how it turned out. It feels really nice on my shoulders which is a plus. Not sure if the picture will show the true colors but it is mostly brown with off white and blue stripes.
I can't decide whether to line it with cloth or not.....what do you all think? I need some suggestions, eager to start showing it off..... Smiley

I love the fabric and the style of this cute purse. Where did you get the pattern or did you make it up yourself? Care to share a tutorial on the makings?
Your bags look so professional..... Smiley

I love this bag, especially with the embroidery. I think I like the rounded version better. I kept thinking about how stuff would creep into the pointed corners and hide. You done a very nice and professional job on the construction of the purse. I say you need to go for it on selling them on your own website. I would buy one from you.....so please give us a link when you are done setting it up.
