Swap and Share!

*pic used with permission from FiberAlchemist*

For this challenge Im presenting the package that I sent back in the 2016 I want to live in the Burrow Harry Potter swap.  https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=448585.msg5399089#msg5399089

Im pretty sure my inspiration started with the bowls.  I found the bowls at the dollar store and I think they had red, green, and blue.  I had been playing around with sharpie-paint mugs and went ooh! I can make these into HP house bowls! But. They didnt have yellow.  I bought what I could and went home and searched the website.  They had yellow!  I happy danced. Until I saw they only shipped in packs of 40.  I went a little bonkers on that.  I didnt need 40 yellow bowls lol.  So I proceeded to check every dollar store on a one hundred mile long path.  The store that finally had one was 80 miles away from me lol.  Now -that- was a happy dance.

Got all the bowls home and went about paint pen-ing them and then I saw in one of the movie scenes a real cereal box and jaw dropped.  I must make!

I took a couple days to create the box in photoshop to look as much like the original box that I could.  I even made a date and price and ingredients.  (CheeriOwls is about $4.50 muggle money)  Was fun!  Modge podged it on a cereal box.

And packages are all about the details!  A local store sells cereal marshmallows, so I made a matching label and added that.  And made up a cute fast pygmy puff to rummage around in the bottom for crumbs.

*FiberAlchemists picture ~cropped*

Quick tute for paint mugs.  Make sure to use sharpie PAINT pens, not regular sharpies.  I have a vinyl cutting machine, so I used that for stickers.  But you could freehand anything you wanted.

Thanks to Fiber for swapping and Jennie for hosting that swap!
And Thanks for looking!

For Valentines and a Birthday party I have almost half my homework done already!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Apparition
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Kitty Bookmarks
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Reading books helps transport you to a different place, but usually not all in one sitting.  So in comes the kitty bookmarks to save your spot.  I drew these kitties and photoshopped them with instructions for the craft at my daughter's cat themed birthday party.  ...while I drew them, the idea and kitty placement is completely stolen from pinterest.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Arithmancy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Balloon Animal Choices
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: To communicate what balloon animal choices kids in line have, I've drawn up this menu.  I drew all the pictures and colored them in photoshop.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Astronomy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Cat Cookies
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: For a cat themed party you need cat themed treats!  These are basic sugar cookies with royal frosting.  The royal frosting is in 3 colors: white, yellow, pink.  I'm not the happiest with the sugar cookie recipe, but here's the royal frosting:
2 lbs powdered sugar
1/3 cup meringue powder
3/4 cup warm water
2 TBSP oil free flavoring
Mix water and meringue powder with paddle attachment on low speed until mostly dissolved.  Add flavorings and mix.  Add sugar and start mixer on lowest speed.  Once everything has been combined, stop mixer and scrape down sides.  Turn mixer to medium-high and beat for 5 minutes.
*The consistency changes for outlining and flooding with the addition of more water.  I'd suggest watching a youtube for the look and feel.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Chocolate Kiss Decorations
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Like the Occamy, these little kisses come in silver packaging.  Both silver cases open up to showcase what is inside.  These kisses are made from wood, painted and sanded to give texture.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Divination
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Balloon Column(s)
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: This balloon column has a repeating pattern as the spiral of balloons soars upwards.  I made two, but was waiting to take a picture until they were set up at the event.  But smart me, I didn't take one, doh.  So we just get to see the single.  Use your imagination and double it!
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Headmistress/Dragon Heartstring
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Balloon Backdrop
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Had to make a picture backdrop for a Valentine's Dance and saw an idea like this on the internet.  Created from the heart with hearts for Valentine's.  Also with the medium (balloons) it is a bit tempermental because they can pop if not handled delicately, or for no reason at all.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Herbology
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Warriors Game
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Again for the cat party!  My daughter scoped out a sequence game for cats she thought would be a fun game, but with the $25+ pricetag I wasn't playing.  I came home and made it by copying other people's Warrior Cat drawings from the internet and printing them into tiny squares.  The squares were pasted all over a poster board and whoa looks so confusing!  Was a fun game though, the girls liked it and bonus it was warrior cats and not just regular cats.  Plus it was made all from stash!

Subject: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Balloon Twisting Apron
Brief Description: Balloon Animals are magical creatures filled with air.  To be able to care for them well they must be put in a safe and tidy place. You dont want them hurt before the air fills them and the magic begins.  To give them that special home I will make a balloon apron to transfer them around until they find their adoptive homes.  It will be a half apron with lots of pockets for fat magical balloons and Velcro straps for the skinny magical balloons.  Havent decided how I want it to look yet, but basically this http://www.mbd2.com/EWN/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Apron_Deluxe.jpg  I will need fabric, a clasp and strap, interfacing, possibly will need to learn to use snaps.  This will probably take me more than a month, but if it doesnt I will make a chicken egg collecting apron as well.

NEWT Subject: Arithmancy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Personal Progress Book Holders
Project Page Link (if available): -
Brief Description: I used my arithmancy knowledge to take much amounts of fabric, ribbons, interfacing, and made them into 10+ book holders.  These are for the local church group that has progress books for the young women to do service and talent activities.  This will give them a place to keep their books and things nice.  Even a spot for a pen!  Used this pattern: http://www.cranialhiccups.com/2012/01/young-women-personal-progress-book-holders.html
My girls then saw how fun the book holders were and wanted their own.  So instead of 10 books, I made 12.  My girls got fun jewel buttons on front to give an extra sparkle, and were especially excited to choose their own fabrics.  My oldest already had one, but was sad her fabrics were boring.

7  CRAFTSTER CRAFT CHALLENGES / Craftster Craft Challenge Theme Ideas, Etc. / Mantel Decorating on: January 18, 2017 06:13:32 AM
How about decorating your mantel for a holiday other than Christmas--Easter/Valentines/Thanksgiving....?  One piece (or more) of the display has to be completely homemade, but the overall look is judged.

9  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Angel Food Cake on: January 16, 2017 05:28:23 PM
So I've always wondered if you really must have that special pan for angel food cake.  Could you just use a bundt pan?

As far as I understand, you can use a bundt.  Just make sure it is a big enough one for all your batter.  If it's too small add a smaller bread loaf pan too.  But I've always used a knife to cut the cake away from the pan, so I'm not sure how easily it would release.  You can't use any grease.
Worth a try though!

Do you do anything with all the leftover yolks?

This time I just dumped them, but I've saved them for ice cream or creme brulee before.
