1  CheeriOwls Breakfast Pack in CHALLENGE 118 ENTRIES by patty_o_furniture on: April 08, 2017 08:14:04 AM
Swap and Share!

*pic used with permission from FiberAlchemist*

For this challenge Im presenting the package that I sent back in the 2016 I want to live in the Burrow Harry Potter swap.  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=448585.msg5399089#msg5399089

Im pretty sure my inspiration started with the bowls.  I found the bowls at the dollar store and I think they had red, green, and blue.  I had been playing around with sharpie-paint mugs and went ooh! I can make these into HP house bowls! But. They didnt have yellow.  I bought what I could and went home and searched the website.  They had yellow!  I happy danced. Until I saw they only shipped in packs of 40.  I went a little bonkers on that.  I didnt need 40 yellow bowls lol.  So I proceeded to check every dollar store on a one hundred mile long path.  The store that finally had one was 80 miles away from me lol.  Now -that- was a happy dance.

Got all the bowls home and went about paint pen-ing them and then I saw in one of the movie scenes a real cereal box and jaw dropped.  I must make!

I took a couple days to create the box in photoshop to look as much like the original box that I could.  I even made a date and price and ingredients.  (CheeriOwls is about $4.50 muggle money)  Was fun!  Modge podged it on a cereal box.

And packages are all about the details!  A local store sells cereal marshmallows, so I made a matching label and added that.  And made up a cute fast pygmy puff to rummage around in the bottom for crumbs.

*FiberAlchemists picture ~cropped*

Quick tute for paint mugs.  Make sure to use sharpie PAINT pens, not regular sharpies.  I have a vinyl cutting machine, so I used that for stickers.  But you could freehand anything you wanted.

Thanks to Fiber for swapping and Jennie for hosting that swap!
And Thanks for looking!

For Valentines and a Birthday party I have almost half my homework done already!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Apparition
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Kitty Bookmarks
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Reading books helps transport you to a different place, but usually not all in one sitting.  So in comes the kitty bookmarks to save your spot.  I drew these kitties and photoshopped them with instructions for the craft at my daughter's cat themed birthday party.  ...while I drew them, the idea and kitty placement is completely stolen from pinterest.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Arithmancy
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Balloon Animal Choices
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: To communicate what balloon animal choices kids in line have, I've drawn up this menu.  I drew all the pictures and colored them in photoshop.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Astronomy
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Cat Cookies
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: For a cat themed party you need cat themed treats!  These are basic sugar cookies with royal frosting.  The royal frosting is in 3 colors: white, yellow, pink.  I'm not the happiest with the sugar cookie recipe, but here's the royal frosting:
2 lbs powdered sugar
1/3 cup meringue powder
3/4 cup warm water
2 TBSP oil free flavoring
Mix water and meringue powder with paddle attachment on low speed until mostly dissolved.  Add flavorings and mix.  Add sugar and start mixer on lowest speed.  Once everything has been combined, stop mixer and scrape down sides.  Turn mixer to medium-high and beat for 5 minutes.
*The consistency changes for outlining and flooding with the addition of more water.  I'd suggest watching a youtube for the look and feel.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Care of Magical Creatures
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Chocolate Kiss Decorations
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Like the Occamy, these little kisses come in silver packaging.  Both silver cases open up to showcase what is inside.  These kisses are made from wood, painted and sanded to give texture.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Divination
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Balloon Column(s)
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: This balloon column has a repeating pattern as the spiral of balloons soars upwards.  I made two, but was waiting to take a picture until they were set up at the event.  But smart me, I didn't take one, doh.  So we just get to see the single.  Use your imagination and double it!
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Headmistress/Dragon Heartstring
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Balloon Backdrop
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Had to make a picture backdrop for a Valentine's Dance and saw an idea like this on the internet.  Created from the heart with hearts for Valentine's.  Also with the medium (balloons) it is a bit tempermental because they can pop if not handled delicately, or for no reason at all.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Herbology
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Warriors Game
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Again for the cat party!  My daughter scoped out a sequence game for cats she thought would be a fun game, but with the $25+ pricetag I wasn't playing.  I came home and made it by copying other people's Warrior Cat drawings from the internet and printing them into tiny squares.  The squares were pasted all over a poster board and whoa looks so confusing!  Was a fun game though, the girls liked it and bonus it was warrior cats and not just regular cats.  Plus it was made all from stash!

***NEWT PROPOSAL***
Subject: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Balloon Twisting Apron
Brief Description: Balloon Animals are magical creatures filled with air.  To be able to care for them well they must be put in a safe and tidy place. You dont want them hurt before the air fills them and the magic begins.  To give them that special home I will make a balloon apron to transfer them around until they find their adoptive homes.  It will be a half apron with lots of pockets for fat magical balloons and Velcro straps for the skinny magical balloons.  Havent decided how I want it to look yet, but basically this http://www.mbd2.com/EWN/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Apron_Deluxe.jpg  I will need fabric, a clasp and strap, interfacing, possibly will need to learn to use snaps.  This will probably take me more than a month, but if it doesnt I will make a chicken egg collecting apron as well.

newtnewtnewt

NEWT Subject: Arithmancy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Personal Progress Book Holders
Project Page Link (if available): -
Brief Description: I used my arithmancy knowledge to take much amounts of fabric, ribbons, interfacing, and made them into 10+ book holders.  These are for the local church group that has progress books for the young women to do service and talent activities.  This will give them a place to keep their books and things nice.  Even a spot for a pen!  Used this pattern: http://www.cranialhiccups.com/2012/01/young-women-personal-progress-book-holders.html
My girls then saw how fun the book holders were and wanted their own.  So instead of 10 books, I made 12.  My girls got fun jewel buttons on front to give an extra sparkle, and were especially excited to choose their own fabrics.  My oldest already had one, but was sad her fabrics were boring.

4  Angel Food Cake in Dessert by patty_o_furniture on: January 15, 2017 09:02:29 PM
We were tending to some chickens while their owner was away and we got so many eggs!  I had to figure out what to do with them all and one of our favorite ways to do an egg dump is with Angel Food cake!  This was so good that my family ended up eating it in one sitting.  Yikes!  Shocked

Angel Food Cake
From 1972 Betty Crocker Cookbook.

1 cup cake flour
12 egg whites (1-1/2 cups)
3/4 cup plus 2 Tablespoons sugar
1-1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar
1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Set Oven at 375
Combine cake flour and 3/4 cup sugar.
In another large mixer bowl beat egg whites, cream of tartar and salt until foamy. Add second amount of sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating on high speed until meringue holds stiff peaks. Remove mixer bowl.
Gently fold in flavorings. Sprinkle flour/sugar mixture, 1/4 cup at a time, over meringue, folding in gently until flour mixture disappears. Push batter into ungreased tube pan. Cut through gently with spatula to remove air pockets.
Bake 30-35 minutes until top is browned and springs back when touched with finger. Invert pan over funnel until completely cool.

5  Harry Potter Cards in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by patty_o_furniture on: January 15, 2017 08:56:19 PM
Wanted our Christmas cards to be Harry Potter this year, so drew up a cute Dobby!

And after I loved Dobby so much, I decided all our Birthday cards this year needed to be Harry Potter too!  So I drew a Hagrid and his cake.

These are both hand drawn and then colored in photoshop.  Better start thinking of Valentine's!
Thanks for looking

Project Page Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=451360.0
Brief Description: We were asked to watch over a flock of chickens and after traveling through all the snow to take cake of them, we gathered eggs!  Lots of eggs.  So I had to figure out what to do with them.  Enter angel food cake! This was so good my family ate it in one sitting.  Yikes! lol Recipe

Brief Description:  These marshmallows require the application of heat to melt the sugar.  Then you need to add the sugar to some gelatin and beat it until it is nice and fluffy!

House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Hagrid Cards
Project Page Link:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=451359.msg5426353#msg5426353
Brief Description: We always end up missing birthday celebrations for DH's family because we live so far away.  We end up giving gifts a month or more late and it's awkward, so we've decided to send cards this year instead.  And after my precious Dobby Christmas card, I wanted to mimic it.  So I drew up a Hagrid for a card, and photoshop painted him.  I love him!  Hopefully he will light up the hearts of the birthday people this year.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid Ribbons
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Candy Inside Balloon Gifts
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: These balloons are tied together in such a way that they create funny faces, but when you look in their bellies you also see candy stuffed inside.  There is a special way you have to sneak the candy in before the balloon is tied.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Muggle Studies
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: HP Chibi doodles
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description:  Practice makes perfect!  It's one of those funny sayings the nonmag's say.  So while bored in a meeting I began to doodle some HP characters.  They morphed into fatter chibi looking guys as I penciled.  Then went back with a pen and thickened up some lines to give it more character.  Cute-ies.  Not sure what the plan is with them since they are on lined paper though.  Maybe just a simple page bookmark.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: SoAR
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Neighbor Christmas Cupcakes
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: There are 300 mini cupcakes here.  This took a lot of discipline to make that many and get them looking and tasting to my liking! Peppermint, Vanilla Bean, Egg Nog, and Hot Chocolate flavors all placed into cupcake trays and labeled with a fun Christmas greeting from our family.  Took them around to all the neighbors.  Last year made 6 regular sized cupcakes per family and I had "complaints" (lol) that people didn't get to taste all the flavors after kids ran off with their hands full.  This year I made 3 flavors each so hopefully my friends could taste test a couple at least!
Project Picture:

and cute chocolate marshmallows made for the gluten free friend.  Sad little guys don't get their own post, because they just took a few quick minutes.

Received from wavelight.  A fun I Spy ornament.  And clever use of perler beads, makes these much lighter than the common polybeads.  She's made little shrinky dinks in all my favorite HP things hidden inside.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid's Star
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: M&M Illusion cupcakes
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Something that I shine at and lights me up everytime anyone asks me to do, is making cupcakes.  Made cupcakes for my nephews 3rd birthday and after asking what kind he wanted he yelled "m&m!" so he got m&m based cupcakes.  These are made with the illusion of the candies pouring from the bag.

Project Picture:

See?  I really excel at cupcakes.  There are 5 different kinds! lol

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid's Angel
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Graham Cracker Houses
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Made ten graham cracker house bases for a girl scout group that I am in charge of.  Those little angels are so fun to have come over to my house to learn skills and sometimes just to have fun.  Like make gingerbread houses!
I made the houses cutting up graham crackers and then 'glued' them to cardboard cake circles with melted sugar 'caramel'.  You just put plain old white sugar into a heavy bottom pan and heat on medium until it looks golden.  Dip cracker edges in it and put together.  Holds much faster than royal frosting when you are trying to make a bunch at once.
Project Picture:

Some finished houses of theirs and my 3 year old nephew's.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid Icicles
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Christmas Layer Finger Jello
Project Page Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=442375.0
Brief Description: I love making this finger jello because kids love it and it looks so festive.  It is simple as in open a box and stir, but takes hours to create so you have to stay near your fridge.  The only picky thing about it, is you have to keep everything at the right temperature.  You have to heat the liquids to boiling to get the gelatin to melt, but then let it cool enough so you wont melt the layer under it after it has been kept cold.
Project Picture:
Took these to a neighborhood party and a whole two tier tray was empty by the time I made it through the dinner line!  lol.  Kids adore them.  I served them in muffin cups so they were easy to grab and go.  These four sad ones were the "broken" ones I saved for my girl's lunches.  Glad I did because I forgot to take a pic of the first stack!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid Fake Snow
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Lego Potter Earrings
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: I used purchased lego Harry Potter heads as a fun purchased supply to use to make earrings.  These went to my partner in the HP Holiday swap.  She asked for some small HP gifts to give to friends.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid Baubles
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Dobby Card
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description:  I wanted to do a Potter themed Christmas card this year and got inspiration from an etsy card with dobby saying he got a birthday card. So I drew Dobby in my own personal cartoon style and then painted him in photoshop.  I thought there wasn't enough color so I went back and added a hat and holly.  For our family pic we all got our Hogwarts houses quidditch team shirts and are going to stand in front of our HP Christmas tree.  It'll be fun!
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Hagrid Tree Skirt
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Countdown Stockings
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: These Christmas stockings are both functional and decorative.  They are very festive above my kitchen table, but as the month goes by each day my girls will get to take one down and find a mini present or activity to do for that day.
This wasn't going to be one of my projects because it was storebought stockings with easy handmade shrinky dink tags, but this dumb project cost me a whole morning setting up!  Crazy.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Transfiguration
SPEW: -
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Baby Potter Pegs
Project Page Link: -
Brief Description: Made my HP Holiday swap partner some Potter Peg friends and she talked about having an American Girl Doll that she was trying to make potter friendly.  I had these miniature peg wooden babies and thought it would be fun to try to make her doll some baby pegs too.  It required precise calculations to paint them scaled from Big Peg to baby peg.

Completed OWL
OWL Subject & Option: Potions 2 (PM proposal)
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Potter Peg Ornaments
Project Page Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=450969.new;topicseen#new
Brief Description: Here I showed proficiency in the shrinking potion learning how to shrink Harry Potter and his crew by just making them small and not go back in age.  I made them small enough so I can hook them up and let them be cute decorations on my HP tree.
Project Picture:

PROPOSAL OWL
OWL Subject & Option:  Defense Against the Dark Arts - 1
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Temple Painting
Brief Description: The patronus is a useful spell for ridding your area of dementors.  It is a difficult spell to master however, so be prepared for a back up plan.  One plan is to go to a highly spiritual place, like a religious temple.  For this OWL I would like to paint one of those sacred dementor free zones.  It will be a large 24X36 painting that I will hang in my front room, hopefully ridding my home of dementors while I continually practice and master the patronus spell. I hope to have this finished by the end of january.

Received from plaidpineapple.  She sent two fun handpainted ornaments for my tree.  A Hufflepuff crest and a funny Dumbledore.  Love them both!
