11  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Re: Anyone have solar panels???? on: May 10, 2017 06:40:30 PM
No - the microfit program is over, so it is not a priority for us right now - there are other aspects of the house that need to be dealt with, namely the siding, windows, and a few other things.  I am not liking the new program Ontario Hydro has, of sending out letters telling you how efficient energy use is - I think they are basing it on old information of our house, namely that it was a bungalow and we have since added a second story.
12  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Discussion and Questions / Re: Using an ink jet printer for image transfer onto wood by "rubbing?" on: May 09, 2017 02:09:55 AM
Works best with porous surfaces (wood, fabric, paper).  Use transfer medium, gel medium or liquid polymer clay, or even clear packing tape to make a skin if you want to transfer to a non porous surface.  You can try with a more porous tile, like a marble, but you may have to play and not soak it too much or you may end up with a smeary mess - and use a toner image if using the blender markers

I often add minis to packages for a quick note, or tuck them into gift bags and the like.  I love minis, or different sizes.  Though good ol' A2 has less waste when using 8.5x11" paper.

I need to print my front pics and glue those on.  I finished the base cards.  Cut them all out from reused packaging, and decorated the two sides.  I think printed, cut out, and inked the factoids and edged them, and glued them on the backs.  I added a bit more decoration over top too.  I may not decorate the envelopes - need to make mom day cards.

I may be in on this one.   Too bad no minis - I have a hankering to make minis.
17  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: Electronic cutting machines on: May 05, 2017 10:23:15 AM
Welcome - the garland sounds cute.  Yes, I can see where cutting those out one by one would suck.  There are several types of electronic cutting machines and several craftster members have them - ranging from cricut to curio.  I have been looking at the Brother Scan and Cut myself, but don't have an electronic cutter as yet.  I have a die cutting/embossing manual machine and a lot of dies.  I will say one advantage of using a manual machine - if you have the steel rule dies, you can cut several layers of thin paper or fabric at one.  But then you would be limited to a particular die size.  I hope one of the others can help you out based on their experience.

I am moving onto the fun part of it - gesso'd the bases and will likely decorate it this week then cut out the cards.  I plan on printing the backs and the fronts this week, when I go to a tent sale at one of my favourite art stores - so combining a couple of my favourite things into this card - reusing materials (reused cardboard) and finding deals on stash supplies (I often will find deals on paints, etc at this tent sale).
