401  Re: Make-a-Friend Round 7 -- Summer 2011 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Onyxnox on: May 26, 2011 07:21:48 AM
Package 1 - RECEIVED

I received yesterday from whats_her_name.  What a great package!  She started her own business making papercrafts for brides/weddings and I am impressed and envious!

First, here is the whole shebang.  Look at how beautifully wrapped it is.  I should have done that and labelled, but so many of mine overlapped topics category, so I am afraid she got quite the mess in comparison to the box I send her  Embarrassed

and unwrapped....

Here is the gorgeous front of the notecard she sent me.

Her bio on the inside and back - so beautifully done around the image.

Her favourite character(s) - she loved to many to pick just one.  These two are magnets, already on my fridge.

Something that keeps her organized -  a beautifully made little fabric pouch she sewed herself - love the little heart bead on the zipper!

A summer essential - a lovely beaded anklet.  When the rain lets up and I can wear sandals again, this will be on!  I love anklets too Cheesy Something from a favourite store - Chapters gift card.  I love books too - but funnily enough, I never thought of it as a favourite store - to me it is like going to the grocery store - it is such an essential part of my life (there is one in my hospital lobby) Cheesy  So I love both of these too.

A favourite scent - she loves berry scents and this berry scented cologne and lotion - yummy!  I am more a citrus or spice gal myself, but I don't think my arm needs to be twisted to try this out Cheesy   Something always in her purse - Soft lips lipbalm in a berry scent/flavour.  It already is in mine too Cheesy  I also sent lipbalm in my box.  Something to drink - hot apple cider.  She is not a tea or coffee gal, but she loves hot apple cider.  Have you ever tried cranberry cider???  I love spiced mulled ciders too, and if I can find the cranberry one, I may have to send you some (usually it is around in the winter though :/ )

Something edible - chocolate covered pretzels she made - she loves chocolate (me too!) and the combination of salty and sweet.  Look at the packaging!!!  I presume you made the label too.  So pretty.  I'm going to wait to share them with DH - he probably will like them too.
Something made from paper - personalized notecards she made for me!  I love the brown and blue floral pattern and it is just so beautiful!  No wonder you started a business, these are so beautiful!

Finally something local - She is from Regina and sent me a travel mug with the new campaign to promote her city.  I love it and can pretty much guarantee that no one else at work will have one, so it will be my work cup - thanks

402  Re: Spring is for METAL!!(Metal Swap round 2) Gallery!! (NSFW) in The Swap Gallery by Onyxnox on: May 26, 2011 06:43:50 AM
That blanket is gorgeous, and the embroidered pieces are amazing.  I especially love the black on black leather look - that is a brilliant idea!  Personally, I like it  best in the hoop - I like the juxtaposition of of the dark image and quote in the traditional framing of the hoop.

I received from Undersea_sun earlier in the week, but it was a nutty day yesterday and I literally was up for over 28 hours and in no shape to appreciate anything, so I opened this morning.  I laughed when I saw that we both sent each other coasters Cheesy

DH is going to love the Dio coasters - LOVE them.  I am going to use the Metal jar to save our change for concert tickets, and the picture frame is going on my desk.  Tempting to use the flask at work, but probably not the best idea if I want to keep my job Wink

The lightswitch cover - perfect timing - I just broke the one in our bedroom Cheesy

The whole shebang -

DIO coasters   \m/

Metal decor - love the detail on the frames

Rob Zombie flask and Metal jar

Thank you very much - this swap is always fun Cheesy

404  Re: Alice in Craftster-Land Rd. 3 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Onyxnox on: March 21, 2011 11:15:50 AM
I received my package this morning, from SevsOnlyGirl!  I was so excited - it came as two separage packages, and were delivered within minutes of each other by two separate postal workers - so exciting!

Thank you so much for being my partner - it was a fantastic package.

Here are the pics of my goodies:

The whole shebang on my stove.

She made me a bunch of mushroom ornaments for my garden.  They will look adorable under my trees in the front.  I think I may have to arrange them in a fairy ring and make a little Caterpillar with a hookah to sit on one, or to sit beside them.  Also some plant stakes (Look!!!  BILL THE LIZARD!!!), which are now sitting in two of my houseplants.  I love the glitter green of Bill~!

A great messenger bag with the Hatter hat on it.  I did not realise the bag was made from scratch until I read her note, it seemed too perfect - awesome sewing skills!  I am envious - but then again, the bag is mineminemine!

This adorable journal, which I adore and will use as a scrapbook - not sure if it will be for the dogs, crafts, or the house renos....  Isn't the cover beautiful.

And the extras she sent me.  A piece of Hatter art that she bought, off my wists - Love it!!!  She sent me the stamps and ink she used for the journal, and some notecards too, very Alice themed.  Also an accent pillow case that matches the stamps too.  Love it all!

Thank you SevsOnlyGirl, for my package and for organizing this swap.  Thank you everyone for making it a great swap.  I know it is not over yet, but I am kind of sad to realise that it almost is.  There is something really inspiring, and magical about seeing all this Alice inspired creativity!

I am all in, if there is a Round 4!

405  Re: Glue for fabric hair clips in Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions by Onyxnox on: February 28, 2011 07:47:24 AM
Have you tried E6000?

What kind of hair pin are you using, a plain bobby pin?  I have found, at a local bead store, that there is a kind of bobby pin that has a flat metal piece on one of the bars of the pin, so that items can be mounted on it.  If you are not using those already, that may be helpful as it gives you more surface area to attach something.

I have also done some fabric hair ornaments using bobby pins - the ones I just mentioned, and used a heavier felt as a base.  Something I have also done to try to make them more durable and secure is to cut two slits into the felt to feed one bar of the bobby pin through, gluing it on the backside to the felt.  It looks neater as the glue is going to be sandwiched between the felt pad, and the ornament on top, and seems more secure.

Here is the backside of one I did recently in case I was not clear in describing it.

It is hard to see, but because the one bar is passed through the two slits in the felt, the pressure of the pin secures the felt on one side, and on the opposite side, where the ornament will sit, the other bar of the pin will be sandwiched between the felt and ornament, with glue securing it all.

I mailed!  THEY said it would get there in 3 days.  *I* feel that Canada Post doesn't have a good grasp of the concept of time and space in this reality (at least not through what they have demonstrated to me in previous swaps!), so all I can be is hopeful.

In the mean time, allow me to tease......

The whole shebang before packaging....

Two select items.....

407  Re: Keep Me Warm Swap Gallery!!! in The Swap Gallery by Onyxnox on: February 24, 2011 04:42:26 PM
Canada Post drives me batty at times - last Christmas I sent two packages at the same time.  One went to the other coast, in BC for a swap, and one, a small package at that, had to just go to Ottawa, which is what, about a 6 HOUR drive away?Huh??  The one I sent to BC made it there in about 3 days.  It took well over a week for the one to get to Ottawa.

Anyways, I received my package the other day and I just opened this evening and took pics.

My partner was jl409, who sent awhile ago, but I think Canada Post was testing my patience again.  She sent me a great assortment of drinks, including three awesome sounding teas, some packages of Mexican hot chocolate, and a wonderful sounding coffee.  As i type, I am sipping on some organic citrus oolong - smells sooooooooooo gooooooooooooood!!!!

I love the matte black packaging of the citrus summer black tea too - something so intriguing about that!

She sent me so many things.  She baked some wonderful biscotti, which I have already munched on.  Cranberry-pistachio.  She also sent me recipes too, including the biscotti recipe, and I will be making the broccoli cheese soup tomorrow - a perfect sounding Keep Me Warm recipe (and a way to sneak green stuff into the Man-beast).  I love the heart box and the heart ziplocks too - too cute.  Also a pair of fuzzy warm socks - and I ADORE socks!

For the crafted items, she sent two pairs of fleece ear warmers, one in black and one in red, both with floral detail and button centres.  Adorable, and perfect, as I don't wear hats well, but love to cover my ears.

Also, she sent a pocket scarf in this fantastic black and white floral fleece, and a pair of hand warmers that are lavender scented and in the cutest blue monkey fabric.  LOVE IT!   Brilliant, because I can't wear gloves/mitts all the time walking the dogs in case I have to pick up after them, but now I can pop these in the microwave and stick them in my pockets (of the scarf!!) and warm my hands without fiddling with putting gloves on/off!

Thank you Jana, I really enjoyed swapping with you!

Thank you blushingbluegrass and Miss Barbara for organizing, and I am in if we do the Keep Me Cool version!

408  Re: Fake Swapping Craft-along (ongoing) in Craftalongs by Onyxnox on: January 23, 2011 05:41:23 PM
Here is the purse - it actually is a trial to see if I can make it, so it is in a blue floral I had, and not the clouds fabric.  I had a scrap of dark blue fabric that I used for the liner and added an extra pocket.  It looks nice and summery.  I think when I make it next, I may add a divider inside.

I made a wallet too, but the instructions were horrible.  There were many mistakes and redos.  It is bigger than I want, but I like that it had tonnes of pockets.

Guess what one of my favourite colours is  Wink

Finally, I made 4 fleece cowls.  One for a swap, one for a friend, one for MIL, and one for me.  Here are two of them.  Mine is a dark gray, and a silvery gray.  It is really cuddly warm.

410  Re: Craft along for ME- ongoing in Craftalongs by Onyxnox on: January 15, 2011 09:14:37 AM
I made my first "for me" project!  I made myself the little Noriko purse from the Lazy Girls Designs blog, which is a free pattern.  I think it turned out pretty cute!  I used a brooch I made too as a button - I was playing with resin and watch parts on a brooch form I had.
