301  Die cut leather bookmarks in CHALLENGE 87 ENTRIES by Onyxnox on: June 05, 2013 07:31:11 PM

I had this idea for awhile for some tatty leather scraps I had.

I had found a tag die at Marshalls for a great price which I thought would make a great size for a bookmark, and had some cute small leaf dies I liked, as well as a tree bark embossing folder, so made some tree bookmarks.  I love summer and the fall, so they were inspired for the seasons.

I wet embossed the brown leather with the bark folder, and the moisture and pressure mottled the colour of the leather too, which was perfect for the barky look.

Then I cut some leaf shapes from white leather, and used pigment dies to add the colour in layers to make them look more leafy.  After everything was dry, I added eyelets to the top of the tag, and fed some brown ribbon through (my limbs) and sewed the leaves to the end.  I decided just a few leaves so as not to make the tassel end too heavy and pull the bookmark out of the book.

I loved how the leather took the die, so cut a couple more white tags to play around with.  I added the ink colour, then stamped designs on with Staz on ink, and used an embossing pen to highlight some designs before adding embossing powder and heating it.

I coloured some ribbons for the tassels, and die cut some shrink plastic to thread onto the ends - decorating the plastic with alcohol inks and some stampings before shrinking.  I love how intense the colours get when you shrink inked plastic

303  Re: Stitch Marker Swap Round 2 - Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Onyxnox on: June 01, 2013 07:56:45 PM
I received from FairyHazeDesigns this week too.  I love that she used found objects from her camping trips - mine were made from bleached shells found on the beach.

She also received from me and asked for me to post pics as she is in themiddle of moving.  I made hers using a combination of stamping, resin, decoupaged washi paper, and shrink plastic for a set of knitting markers, and also sent a couple of resin clay/crystal crochet markers.

The stitch makers are coming in fast and furious!  I received from Smeddley a couple of days ago and I love them.  They are in an Asian theme, with beads that are black and a gorgeous gorgeous shade of red.

A couple have fish charms on them - perfect for marking round ends/beginnings, or patterns.

Thank you - I love them, and am thinking of my next knitting project right now!

rscowtown - I am glad that Snoopy made it to you safely!

I received from AmandaBL earlier in the week, but did not open until today.  She sent me a gorgeous journal.  It is very inspiring and is giving me thoughts of how to make a photojournal for a friend of ours (the hostess of our annual Christmas gathering).  I am trying to find the pics on my memory stick now and will post imminently.

Here we go...

The cover is very textural.  I loved how textural it all was, and the different styles of all the pages.

The charm on the front.

Some samples of the pages within

Thank you so much Amanda - I love it all.

I received from noodle-bug earlier in the week - sorry I haven't posted pics yet.  It was a bit hectic between work, and our move meeting (our entire unit is moving to another floor in a month), and then DH and I got a new dog from the Humane Society, so it has been a bit busy (oh, and Jim's still renovating the main floor).

I love them - she sent me a triad of swear hoops, so this is a mature image posting.  They are cute small hoops with polka dot fabric.  I can't wait to display them on my craft room wall.

Thank you very much noodle-but!

This is for those of us who are missing/anticipating Christmas, just cant wait for it to come in December, and need a taste of it NOW.

Swappers will be paired up and make each other a Christmas themed package to be sent out in July.  I will set up a Gallery after the send date for those nasty people who like to send teasers (like me), but we shall have an Official Opening Party online on July 25th.  For those who cannot help but open them prior - do so at your own risk - I will have your emails and send you cyber snowballs as punishment.  Yeah - you - those people who never could wait and opened their gifts (and probably their siblings too) early.  You know who you are - and Santa does too!

Decorating the home festively prior to opening packages is up to individual preference, but keep in mind that may make you a target of finger pointing, laughter, and possible lynching by those with less Christmas spirit.  Singing or humming of carols is optional - but again, may make you a target.  However, in keeping with the spirit of the season we are craving, please wrap your packages to give your receiver that special Ooooooooh I get to open a pretty present for me! feeling we all love.

I am also requiring that all participants communicate within the discussion thread, or gallery thread when it is open, once a week please.

Otherwise this is a 4 point swap where 1 point is a small item, 2 points is a medium item, and 3 points is a large item, and at least 2 points of which must be crafted, and at least one item must be medium or larger.

308  Dandy dandelions - Month of Odd Holidays swap in CHALLENGE 86 ENTRIES by Onyxnox on: May 03, 2013 04:14:59 AM
I made this for a recent MOH swap for crazyda79.  It's a wee little hoop and not as impressive as some of the entries I have seen, but I am rather proud of it.

I had a small oval hoop, which I woodburned to decorate on the outside and added the swap information on the inside.  I took a mottled blue cotton, which I felt looked a bit like a summer sky with wispy clouds, drew the dandelion head and seeds on, and used green a few browns, grays, and ecru thread to embroider it.  I used some layers of white felt to pad it a bit before finishing the back with purple felt.

309  Re: Matchbox Swap 7 (SO 3/30) in The Swap Gallery by Onyxnox on: April 05, 2013 10:49:20 AM
I received from VegasZombie today - my mailman is finally leaving boxes in my box, and not making me go to the PO to get them.  Now if only he stops putting mail from down the street in my box.

Anyways, this one made me laugh out loud when I opened it.  She went with my Monty Python theme, and Search for the Holy Grail is my favourite of their movies (and I loved Spamalot).  She made a box based on Denis the Peasant's rant about the Lady of the Lake.  The first thing I saw was the watery tart sign and I knew exactly what it was Cheesy

The box was HUGE compared to mine - did you make it???  I am jealous, I should have made my own this time because the storebought ones were tiny compared to what I am used to!

Here is the inside of the box - the rant:

and it was stuffed full - including several great beads that will make an Alice in Wonderland bracelet - I love Alice too!

Thank you very much, and I am glad mine got to you safely too.

I really enjoyed this swap and hope we don't wait so long before doing another one again!  Thanks for organizing this plucky1_08!

310  Decorate Me Swap - accessories/jewelry swap? in New Swap Theme Ideas by Onyxnox on: April 05, 2013 07:26:37 AM
Anyone interested in doing this kind of swap - I was thinking something quick, like everyone making their parner one medium item, no extras unless both partners agree to it amongst themselves.  I was thinking we could do things like earrings, broaches, painted or embroidered scarves, bracelets, pendants, necklaces, hairpins or clips, ties, rings, ID tags for work, etc.

We could do it like the pendant swap where people could choose to swap to and receive from multiple partners, or just make it a simple one partner one - but I think shipping should be low as the items would be small or light.

Anyone interested?
