1761  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Re: Headline News: Cabled Newsboy Cap on: November 27, 2006 08:51:04 PM
Thanks, snowsculpture!  I didn't know which stitch n bitch it was from and I didn't see a reference to it in anywhere in this thread.
1762  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Any indie designers on your wish list? on: November 27, 2006 02:22:22 PM
Hey everyone,

I just spent the last couple hours trying to find stuff by indie designers to put on my Christmas wist.  I really don't want to go the corporate route and ask for stuff from urban outfitters or anthropologie, but I'm having trouble finding indie stuff that I like. So I thought, who better to ask then all you crafty guys and gals?  Also, I'd love to wist lesser known bands, so if you know of any great local bands please link to their sites, too.

I'll start us out with a couple links:

Here's a So-Cal band I like: The Coral Sea
And here's a site that sells great shirts and bags: Lucha Workshop

*changed the title in hopes of getting more attention*
1763  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: I finished my fingerless gloves!! :::: Now with a pattern!! on: November 25, 2006 12:49:39 AM
I love these, but am a novice at charts,
my first question is:
I should knit Row 1 that you wrote out,
then knit Row 1 on the chart, right?
Now is that charted Row 1 considered the right side or wrong side?
(so I'll know whether to knit or purl)
I don't have it in front of me, but I think it starts on a right side row (if the number 1 is on the right of the chart it starts on a right side row, if the 1 is on the left it starts on a wrong side row.)

Let me know if you have any other problems with it.  And I would love to see your finished product!! Cheesy
1764  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: Let's talk Version 2 ! on: November 23, 2006 02:29:40 PM
I sent an email to support about not being able to login and they responded by asking me to send an email with my IP and the number etsy web server that I was hitting to help them resolve the problem.  That was at the beginning of the week and I haven't heard back from them since and I still can't login.  I've decided that I still like etsy, but I can't rely on them so I'm looking into other web store options.  My plan is to still use etsy but to also have my own indepentant online shop.  Does any one have experience with google checkout?  (not a marketplace like etsy, but rather like paypal)
1765  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: New homepage design on: November 22, 2006 11:17:59 AM
Thanks kayly666 and CraftyChef.  I really, really appreciate the feedback!

7. Chances are I would NEVER find you online, unfortunately. There's no text on your home page. Go to the "business discussion" forum and check out the topic "why your website should have content". Then, go back into your site, reduce all those pictures to about 1/3 of the size, and write some content on your home page. Your other pages can have an enlarged version of the corresponding home page pic.

Do you think that even if I meta tagged all the images and used really good titles and put a good deal of text on all the other pages that I still wouldn't be found?  It seems to me that there are sooo many other big and small craft business sites out there that it would be impossible to make in to the top 10 for keywords like "knit purse" or something anyways.  I guess what I'm asking is, would it be worth sacrificing the design?  Or would I be better off just focusing on link sharing and trying to get my name out there through forums, blogs, and other sites?
1766  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Google checkout? on: November 22, 2006 12:01:26 AM
It looks really cool.  Right now it's US only, so that's a bit of a drawback, but otherwise it looks really promising.  And they're doing a holiday promotional thing right now.

I would love to hear from someone who uses the service, too.
1767  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: What should I look for in a printer? on: November 21, 2006 11:51:02 PM
Thank you, both, so much for the information.  CraftyChef, I love hearing your insight as a card maker.  Thanks for sharing your idea of having multiple images printed together to save on costs.  You're a genius!

If anyone else has any insights on choosing a printer I appreciate as much wisdom as you can give me. Smiley
1768  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Faux Pears on: November 21, 2006 09:54:23 PM
Ooh! I love these!  I have such a pear obsession.  They look really lovely.
1769  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: New homepage design on: November 21, 2006 05:20:38 PM
Thanks so much for you opinions.  I'm feeling a little iffy on the frames.  Do you think that they're too heavy?  Maybe the title font looks too thin because everything else is so heavy.

Anyway, I'm going to play around with my sketches in photoshop and see what I can do to make the images a bit bolder.  Thanks again.

Any other comments would be appreciated, too.
1770  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: I can't decide if I like it or not... on: November 21, 2006 05:02:29 PM
Thanks for the interest!  The pattern is up on my website.  Just click on the link under "free stuff" that says "cabled fingerless gloves" to download it as a pdf.
