I have been sewing for many years and I am also an Instructor. I am still to this day intimidated by patterns. I choose to sew without one or I do my own thing with it. I teach both type cleasses (with pattern or without) but I choose to draft my own.
From experience I say just practice and that will make you better. I can make just about anything but each time I make it  it gets beter each time. Hope I didnt confuse you with my babble talk but I agree with the others and go get a beginners pattern and practice.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me!

This is so neat! Do you have to have one of those electric file/drill thingies that they use at the salons? Or can you file by hand?
