31  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: arrghhhhhhh help. I may have used too much lye and water on: March 20, 2017 12:40:24 PM
Have you run it through the calculator with exactly what you did use to see what the lye discount percentage is at? That's the first step. If you tell me exactly what you used as far as oils, lye, and water then I can figure it for you. Extra water is fine, it will just take longer to cure. We just need to figure out how harsh it might be. Essential oils don't figure into your base oils as far as interacting with the lye, they aren't really "fats" as far as that goes.

thanks honey, I'm not terribly au fair with those online calculators

I used 15.6 Oz EVOO 3.7oz of vegetable shortening, 2.9oz caustic soda (NaOH) and 8.14oz water.

It set fine in a few hours, i took it out and cut it into bars. I'm just worried about the pH. It's not the end of the world if it didn't work. I was just using up some EVOO that i didn't think was fresh enough to cook with.

Ok so I used a soap calculator for a mix of  olive oil and  shortening .

Unfortunately before I did this calculation I printed one where I estimated the amount of EVOO  and shortening to be 110,

I printed both and used the first amount of fats and the second amount of oils---ARRGH!  i am such an idiot.

It traced fine, I added in about a table spoon of honey, and about 3 teaspoons of essential oils.

I have basically added in 0.45oz of lye and 1.7oz of water too much. (I used 2.9oz lye and 8.14 of water) The weight of essential oils+ fats is about 20 oz

have I ruined it?Huh

other add ins included a tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon.

I'm still making smalls, but I have the whole weekend to craft. It is Paddy's day tomorrow, which is a holiday here in Ireland, and the weather is supposed to be awful, so three whole days to craft and not feel that I have to be outside. nice.

Onyxnox, onion sprouts?? tell me more, I assume onion seeds sprouted.

Has anyone tried pea sprouts? you can't buy them here but I love them, but am wondering if there is a quick and easy way to sprout them (given my constraints of sleeping in one house Monday-thursday nights and a different one friday-Sunday nights)

OK folks I need help for tonight. I have about a pound of pork mince, about 3/4 pint fresh chicken stock, Plenty of noodles, rice, spuds, spices, onions, mushrooms, carrots. and I have to feed two people. Left overs would be good as I am solo tomorrow night. Plus I am counting calories, so healthier is better...

help (said in my best penelope pitstop voice)
