My daughter is having a Spongebob birthday party this year and I am making jellyfish for prizes. What do you think?
Cut out two circles from fleece. One 5" and one 7" in diameter.
Cut out two strips of fleece 1/2" x 20" and cut out four pieces of fuzzy yarn 10" each.
Stretch the fleece out and it will curl up on itself.
Center the fleece and yarn in the middle of the 5" circle so it looks like this:
Stitch a small circle around the center of the 5" circle to secured the tentacles.
Cut a 2 1/2" circle from a darker colored fleece and place it over the center of the tentacles.
Use a zigzag stitch to secure the circle. This will cover up the first stitches you made and make the tentacles hang out from the center a little bit.
Now place the 5" circle on the wrong side of the 7" circle.
Start pining the circles together and leave 1/4" of the 7" circle showing. Start with 4 pins and then increase to 8 like in the pictures.
With the extra fabric that is sticking out from the 7" circle, pleat it so it lines up with the 5" circle.
Once all of the pleats are made the bottom and top will look like this:
Sew 1/4" from the edge of the 5" circle. Start at the beginning of a pleat and back stitch at the beginning and ending of your stitching leaving a 1" or so opening between two pleats.
Stuff your jellyfish through the opening.
Top stitch the hole closed on the bottom of the jellyfish just like you stitched the body together.
I cut out 5 or 6 circles of the darker fleece and glued them to the top of the jellyfish with fabric glue. NOTE: if you want the dots to be more secure, sew them to the right side of the 7" circle before you assemble the body.
I hope you give this a try. I think a giant jellyfish would be fun.
