Hi all Smiley

I've been absent because just as a family vacation was starting, my Grandmother unexpectedly passed away.  She had severe dementia so it's mostly a relief to know she's at peace again, but it was (and still is) hard.

Project Name: Canada 150 Wreath
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description:

Another project for Canada 150!  The colourful leaf in the middle is the official symbol/logo for Canada 150.

"The logo is composed of a series of diamonds, or celebratory gems, arranged in the shape of the iconic maple leaf. The four diamonds at the base represent the four original provinces that formed Confederation in 1867: Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Additional diamonds extend out from the base to create nine more pointsin total representing the 13 provinces and territories.

The Canada 150 logo is an evocative symbol and will become an enduring reminder of one of Canadas proudest moments. The maple leaf motif is recognized at home and abroad as distinctively Canadian, and it fosters feelings of pride, unity and celebration. This unique design is simple enough to be drawn by children, and versatile enough to be used in a host of applications. The possible uses of the symbol are as unlimited as the spirit and imagination of the Canadian public."

I made it from scraps of felt.  The "shiny" part comes in with the white maple leaves on the bottom half - they are covered in glitter, though it's hard to see in the picture.

Project Name: Canada Day 150 Sundress
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description:

I think it easily fits the description because the fabric is a busy, bright fun red and white maple leaf pattern!  July 1st is Canada Day, the day Canada became it's own country, while still a part of the political and economic British Commonwealth.  This year is our 150th birthday, so I knew we needed extra special gear to celebrate.

I used a simple pattern, but to save on fabric I made a facing instead of lining the bodice fully.  This necessitated taking the dress to my parent's house when I went back home so I could serge the edge of the waist band so it wouldn't fray under the rough-and-tumble play of my girl!

I also whipped up a bow headband, which she sort of needs because back in October she took scissors in her hair in a bad way and we had to cut her hair down to about 1/2" long.  It's grown into a strange shag now!  Fingers crossed it grows enough to turn it into a cute bob by the time she starts Kindergarten in September...

Project Name: Gladiator Flip Flops
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description:

We were halfway through the 4 hour drive home (my kids went ahead a few days ago with my sister and mom) for a week to visit when my sister called to say my Grandmother had suddenly become critically ill - so ill they'd instituted palliative care.  For the next 4 days I was in and out keeping vigil with my Grandma, and trying to watch my kids (my husband had to return home the next day).  With my current neurological and autonomic disorders I became more and more exhausted and sick, and I desperately needed something to turn my mind to.  I grabbed a crochet hook, a new pair of flip flops from walmart, and some Bernat Handicrafter cotton in pretty emerald shade and made the Short Gladiator Flippies from Ravelry.

They're fairly comfortable, being that I don't ordinarily like flip flops - they're perfect for bumming around the house and yard in but I wouldn't walk far.  That's only because I don't like things between my toes - if you normally use flip flops they're just fine!

Well that's a project dump for now.  I'm recovering some ability in my hands again after the last couple weeks of funeral/bad cold/exhaustion so I'm hoping to finish a few more things!

Awww thank you so much for the warm welcome guys!  I'm glad to be back.  I do have a bunch of things on the go, so there will be a project dump in a bit!  Slow and steady wins the race against the neurological disorder, right?

Great projects so far too!

*tentative wave*

Hello all!  Trying to maybe return for our 5th year!  I will be changing houses however........Pottermore lost my original account information, in which I was sorted into Gryffindor.  After two re-sortings (things kept mucking up!) I got Ravenclaw, twice!  I always thought I'd likely be placed in Ravenclaw, though I frankly consider myself a Gryffinclaw (both) at heart.  I've decided to embrace the Pottermore hat and change over to the land of Wit and Wisdom!

I'm sorry I disappeared again my lovelies - I spent most of it in St. Mungo's for reasons we still haven't completely solved (though apparently cortisol is a really important hormone, and your body rebels when it doesn't get enough - WHO KNEW?).  I haven't been able to do much as I've been too ill to even knit or colour, though my magical steroid pills are making it so I can at least sit up for longer periods of time and attempt things!

I have some colouring pages to submit - I think we agreed these were OK as long as they were long projects right?  These pages take me at least 3-4 hours and sometimes longer to finish - longer than my crochet stuff sometimes!

I was finally feeling well enough in the last couple of days of hospitalization to colour again, so I spent quite a few hours filling in this butterly.  It was a super nice present from my supervisor, and I find colouring so satisfying.  Something is very soothing about filling in shapes precisely, blending colours to create a beautiful picture.

Finally a project posting!  Life has been getting away from me!  We have 3 birthdays in March and I have a body that is NOT cooperating with me!

Class: Astronomy
House: Gryffindor
Name:  Eggses!

With Easter last weekend, we decided to dye eggs!  First we coloured them (my 4 yo did the ones that are very well scribbled, I did the neater ones, and my 2 yo decided crayons werent fun lol) with crayons, then we did dip dyeing in food colouring, hot water, and vinegar.  A few we tried doing multiple dips but it didnt work that great as the second dip washed off the first colour set down so no gradients!

Class: CoMC
House: Gryffindor
Name: Green car hat

My son needed a birthday present, and is OBSESSED with cars.  I had this great slime green from making a dinosaur sweater for my daughter a year ago, and its been used for a few projects since.  The red cars are because his favourite thing right now is the Cars movie, so its just like Lightning McQueen.

Class: Flying
House: Gryffindor
Name: Button booties

Well these wee booties have the cutest daisy buttons ever on them.  Crocheted for my friend who finally got a girl after 3 boys!

Class: Headmistress challenge March
House: Gryffindor
Name: Baked oatmeal

This is not only delicious it goes pretty far, and is great for sending as breakfast to daycare (we need to provide my sons meals since hes celiac).  I used GF oats, added frozen blueberries instead of cranberries, and cut the sugar in half.  http://allrecipes.com/recipe/51013/baked-oatmeal-ii/

Class: Potions
House: Gryffindor
Name: Cherry dress card

For my beautiful sister, a birthday card.  It uses a few different materials and techniques: the dress is origami, the stripes are papercut, and the sash is velvet ribbon.  I think it turned out pretty awesome!

OK some comments for all of you because I'm sorely behind in lavishing compliments.

Jenleahlynn - I love your work with watercolours!  I've wanted to learn how to work with them better but they scare me lol.

Erinaquaheart - that is a great quilt square!  Once we move somewhere with more room to sew I'd like to learn paper piecing.  Is it hard?  I've been amassing blue and white snowflake themed fabric to make particular quilt with paper pieced snowflakes.

noodle-bug - I can see from the flash how high vis that hat is.  Way cool yarn!  Where did you get it? And that wee sweater!  Squee!

plaidpineapple - those teeny books are SUPER cute, and the chocolate frog case looks great.

Moonflame - that squishy blanket has a cute stitch!  What is it?

Abbeeroad - that fabric...drooooool...

Jennie - the soaps and starfish are darling!

J_Kieviet - OWLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

gaudiknight - as always, love the dolly stuff.  Love.  Where do you get your BJDs?  Do you assemble them yourself?

bluejanuary - I might need to steal that alphabet beanbag idea, that's so cool!

seeuudee - what a great job with the journal!

edelC - I am NOT looking forward to menopause, I had hot flashes with pregnancy and as a side effect of my autoimmune disease when it wasn't controlled.  Ewwwwwwwww.

satsukirebel - what a beautiful card!  I'm always impressed by the people with such great papercraft skills.

magpirate - what a great job with the busy book!  So much work - I abandoned my daughter's... Tongue

Technicoloraquaheart - Oooooo peanut butter balls.  WANT!

FiberAlchemist - spaghetti squash is such an awesome veggies isn't it?  Great job!

Phew I think that's nearly every one!  I will endeavour to be better next semester. Wink

Drive-by again.  Sorry champs I need to make more effort Sad

Class: Charms
House: Gryffindor
Name: Smoothie packs

Ive started taking smoothies to work every day, but we only have a small freezer upstairs.  I decided to make five different containers that contain the frozen and flavouring ingredients, so each day I only have to toss in the fridge stuff.

Each smoothie uses . Cup greek yoghurt, c. milk or milk alternative and 1 tbsp. maple syrup from the fridge.

The packs contain c. fruit Ive been asked to try a low FODMAP diet to help with abdominal pain so this is either blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or a mixture of the two.  Then I added a small handful of greens, either spinach or the bagged smoothie blend from Costco.  Theres a tablespoon of hemp hearts, and then some extra flavouring in some: things like lemon zest, almond or vanilla extract, cinnamon, cocoa.

Its worked fairly well so far, especially because our upstairs freezer is just a tad warmer than the deep freeze, so the berries while still frozen arent the rock hard shards of glass they are in the deep freeze lol.

Class: Divination
House: Gryffindor
Name: Wee booties
These booties are definitely for the future I finished them for a co-workers grandson right before he was born.  Theyre a simple bootie pattern from Repeat Crafter Me on Ravelry, and made with good ol Vannas Choice worsted yarn.

Class: HoM
House: Gryffindor
Name: Spring Wreath
Ive always wanted a fun spring wreath, so I decided this year to make one.  I was inspired by Michaels and its rows of inexpensive acrylic yarns.  Its inspired by one made by Repeat Crafter Me, but instead of crocheting a wreath cover I wrapped it with the yarn (honestly, not that much faster but it uses less yarn).  I then crocheted a bunch of flowers, found a bee amigurumi pattern I liked, and since it still looked a little bare I worked out a pattern for some wee ladybugs to add in as well.  Im pretty happy with it!
