11  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Mom/Parent Gifts? on: February 25, 2008 09:43:22 AM
i keep hearing about couples presenting their parents with gifts, but i have NO idea what these gifts could be (aside from pictures, which I'd like to stay away from if possible)... anyone have ideas?  I'd love to make something, if I could, but as always, budget is an issue...

I did think about doing embroidered hankies for the moms, but since a) i don't know how to embroider and b) don't know much about hankies (i.e. linen vs. lace, and how to get the lacy borders on) i don't know how good of an idea that is....

anyone have ideas?  did you give your parents gifts?  i feel like we should get them something since they've helped with the wedding, and since the bridesmaids and groomsmen will both be getting gifts...
12  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / When Does a Flaker Become a Flaker? on: February 22, 2008 09:34:34 PM
Question:  My situation is that i have two swappers, two days past the deadline, who have not contacted me since the swap began, and have not answered my pm's.  One of the swappers has not logged in for almost 3 weeks.  This concerns me...  and I need to know when I should begin looking for an angel for this swapper's partner.  The other, however, hasn't been active for about four days - no cause for alarm, but again, when do I mark these people flakers and find angels?

Oh.  Obviously I'm the organizer in this situation.  Might've helped to say that.   Roll Eyes

13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / How to Decorate... on: February 14, 2008 11:41:51 AM
...take-out containers for the candy buffet?

They look like this:

and are the small size.  I feel like they may need jazzing up, but nothing too labor intensive since we have to do about a hundred.  We have no monogram but toyed with the idea of stamping daisies (the flower we're using for bouquets and centerpieces), making daisy stickers, having a stamp made with "love is sweet" or our names and the date or something of that nature, or just tying a ribbon around the handle.

Anybody have any ideas?  Should I just leave well enough alone and keep them plain?  What do you think?
14  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Valentines Gifts for FH: Jammies, Slippers, and Chocolate [IMG PHAT] on: February 13, 2008 10:37:58 PM
Here are the projects I slaved over for the past week or so (valentines day kinda snuck up on me this year  Wink):

first, a pair of pajama pants, since my fiance's last pair got ruined.  i used some boring pajama pattern that i had a devil of a time with (but it's my first FO from a pattern!  woo!) and some clearance fabric from joann's.

next, a pair of Aunt Maggie's Slippers, the pattern for which i found on ravelry.  my first knitting FO was a pair of slippers for my fiance, and they've long since fallen apart, so i thought he deserved some new ones Smiley  they're kinda funky looking, with the ribbing in the toes, but i think they'll work.

then, some chocolate bars using the templates that ljc posted someplace in this section...

and the piece de resistance: the card.  i modeled it after some of the other "things that go together" projects around, and added some others...

a close up:

and with the envelope:

here's the wrapped goodie box:

we won't be exchanging gifts til friday...  do you think he'll like his package?

16  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Swap "Roster" for Feedback? on: February 05, 2008 03:20:34 PM
I have an idea about feedback for swaps.  I've organized a few and have always thought there was a better way to input feedback at the end of the swap than to re-insert all the info each time.  So I'm wondering: is there a way to, say, make it so that you can go into swaps you're organizing and having the list of participants already in there?  This might solve the double-feedback and whatnot situation that happens sometimes....

Does that even make sense?  I hope I explained it clearly enough.   Undecided
17  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / How Far In Advance? on: January 30, 2008 02:37:32 PM
Ladies, hopefully some of you already-marrieds can give me some help on this.  How far in advance can I/should I...

...assemble bouquets of silk daisies (already purchased)?

...make those martha stewart-like tissue paper pom poms?

...address invitation and thank you note envelopes?

...assemble centerpieces from more silk daisies?

thanks in advance for the guidance!
18  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Jewelry + Crafts? on: January 29, 2008 03:51:09 PM
Quick poll:  If you are married or engaged (or wear rings on a regular basis, i guess Wink), do you remove your ring(s) when crafting?

i usually have to take of my pronged engagement ring when knitting, since it catches, but i was painting last night and got messy... around cleanup time i wondered if maybe i should have taken my ring off, lest the diamonds get all gross.  it made me wonder what others do, if anything.

so?  keep it on, or take it off when crafting?
19  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Sewing Accessories! on: January 27, 2008 05:10:29 PM
While organizing my sewing box, I found a ziploc baggie full of sewing needles and another full of pins.  so i figured i needed something more permanent and safe to hold those things.  behold, my matching sewing needle case and pincushion!

the pincushion was made with this tutorial...

the needle case was made with this one...

and here it is open!

what do ya think??
20  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Innovative Craft Storage Ideas on: January 10, 2008 10:56:55 AM
I'm moving soon, and need ideas on how to store my craft supplies.  Before, I divided them up by craft (i.e. thread and pins in one box, clay in another, adhesives in another) in photo boxes and stuck them on a shelf, but I'm looking for something a little more... pizazzy.  I want to see my supplies and be inspired by them!

I have seen the fabric folded around comic book boards (genius!), a shower caddy hung above a sewing machine with thread on the shelves and scissors and measuring tape hanging from the hooks.  I am currently considering getting a spice rack to hold my thread and jars of buttons.  I'm also thinking about getting one of those shoe racks with the cubbies to hold skeins of yarn.

How do YOU store your crafts?  I'm talking about anything... embroidery floss, glass, bias tape, etc...  Any fresh new ideas for us?
