1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Pretty yellow brocade clutch on: March 13, 2008 06:56:53 PM
This is a birthday gift for a friend: a small, poufy, yellow brocade clutch. The yellow fabric is reclaimed from a fancy old cushion-cover, and the lining is made from a Japanese handkerchief.

It has a magnetic snap closure, and the top section is reinforced with pieces cut from stiff plastic packaging.

Hurray for reusing materials! This cost me maybe $2 to make, but it looks so damn classy!  ;P

This may give you an idea of the scale:
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Skirt from very cool Japanese fabric on: February 14, 2008 12:06:05 PM
betty_death found this amazing fabric in Japan, and ever since she gave it to me this skirt has been on my to-do list.

In general I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. I based it on a skirt I had already, and it was very simple (the invisible hem was the most tedious part).

The one issue I have with it is the close-but-no-cigar pattern matching higher up on the skirt. This seems minor though, and I figure I'll just wear tops that more or less conceal that part.

Your comments are welcome!

Gratuitous out-of-focus cat picture!
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Tropical dust-cover for my new keyboard on: February 09, 2008 05:55:36 PM
My boyfriend bought me a sweet keyboard for Ecksmas! But the dust and the cat hair were conspiring against it; the need for a cover was evident ...

Quick, Batman! To the fabric stash!

4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Five valentines (image heavy) on: February 09, 2008 04:50:47 PM
I just went on a valentines rampage! These are for my sister and her family. The basic structure -- nested paper hearts folded and tied with ribbon -- is straight from marthastewart.com (there are some amazing valentines ideas over there). The insides are collaged images from magazines and comic books, with cut-up origami paper and some amazing letraset I found in Paris last year.

5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Passiontote on: January 28, 2007 04:20:19 PM
I recently splurged on a tiny bit of this utterly expensive passionflower-print canvassy fabric. With only one meter to work with, and being desperately in love with it, I nixed my first idea (which was to make new cushions for the couch, but furnishings don't last long around here -- I have two cats with claws at the ready) and decided to make a tote bag instead. I only used half of what I had, and don't know what to do with the rest -- suggestions are welcome!

This is intended for use as a carry-on bag for an upcoming vacation. The handles are vinyl (it looked terrible on the thrifted footstool I pulled it off of last year but I knew it would be good for something), and the lining is cotton left over from another project.

My favourite part is the pocket, which is trimmed with a weird colour-swatchy motif that was printed on the selvage of the passionflower fabric.

For the pictures I put a pink towel in the bag to bulk it up a bit.

6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / William Morris mini bubble handbag on: January 13, 2007 08:14:26 PM
Based largely on YouGotPhoned's tutorial, I made a mini bubble bag. I (completely insanely, it turns out) decided to add a zipper. It was a little hellish, and resulted in some lopsidedness and bad visible stitches and bits, but I nevertheless completely adore it. I used some really neat William Morris fabric I found on ebay. Hurray!!
