Oh wow. I'm totally in love with this. I know of a box of slides in my mom's garage that I need to scan eventually. Maybe afterwards I'll make them into a curtain like this!

Love it!
My boyfriend and I dressed up like Sarah & Jareth for Halloween this year.
So naturally, I love this!

My boyfriend and I have recently discovered Domo and have fallen in love with him. This costume is really, really cute!

The boots make the outfit! Moms always say that kind of thing. I'm 30 and still learning to ignore it!
Fabulous costume! She-ra's one of my childhood heros. I even had her castle playset and most of the action figures. But I never got in to He-Man. Strange?
Well done!

Great stuff! My boyfriend and I are in awe! I know what we want to be next year!
7  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Labyrinth! Sarah's ballgown! on: November 04, 2009 03:30:59 PM
My boyfriend is a huge fan of Labyrinth. He can recite pretty much the whole movie. I love that about him. He's always wanted to be Jareth, David Bowie's character from the movie for Halloween. This year, we made it happen. I decided to be Sarah from the ballroom scene where she wears that hot silvery/white ball gown. I've never made anything like this before, but I like a challenge!

This is the final product. Totally made by me, except for the necklace.
And below is the inspiration dress from the movie.

I made the necklace that Jareth wears out of Fimo clay, but didn't take any close-up shots! That's the only thing handmade on my boyfriend's costume. I just want to show him off because he's cute.

Here's a dramatic action shot of sewing the silver material. I had to use a permanent marker because the fabric pencil wouldn't work.

Here's a confusing shot of tulle and elastic on the skirt.

This is the silvery stuff that went on my hair. Wired ribbon, hot glued Christmas silver things and tons of bobby pins. Seriously, tons.

I made the dress in three detachable parts: skirt, bodice, and poofy sleeves. The sleeves stayed on with the application of snaps on the bodice. Well, sorta. I was glad to be able to remove them half-way through our friend's party. I made a few "sleeve-in-the-onion-dip" blunders!
It was also the first time I used eyelets to create a corset-type closure on the back of the dress. I wasn't very fond of how it looked, so there are no photos of the back. Ha!
Anyway, we got a lot of nice comments about our costumes. Here's a gratuitous shot of David Bowie being hot:

Thank you for looking! I hope it put a smile on your face! (Sorry if some of the photos are sideways. I thought I fixed them, but I guess not!)

That is amazing! Great fabric choice! I'm sure your friend will love it. This is the type of project I've always wanted to try.
9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: George Harrison Afghan on: October 03, 2009 06:41:04 AM
This is fantastic! George is my favorite Beatle.

Hey, maybe when you finish the John Lennon one you could attach them back to back? It might be more appropriate to put George and Ringo together though! Just a thought.

Well done!

Very cool. Very, very cool! I'm in front of a computer all day, but I don't get to do anything this cool. I find it hard to be inspired like this after work!
