11  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / New Look 6531 evening gown on: September 05, 2006 08:52:28 AM
Has anyone done this one? There's no review on patternreview. I only bought it as it was in the 2.50 pattern sale and I have absolutely no oppertunity to wear it. Still, I'm feeling the urge to make it just for the sake of making it!
12  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / But is it ugly enough? on: August 12, 2006 01:48:33 PM

It's very very shiney, probably polyester.

But I can't decide if I like it enough to make anything with (or even what to make). One minute I think it's so ugly that it's actually fantastic, the next I think it's definitely going on the ebay pile. There's about 2 1/2 metres. Any ideas?
13  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / I made my first thing! on: August 10, 2006 12:15:00 PM
This is the first thing I have made since I did GCSE textiles 8 years ago!

This is the pattern:

It's New Look #6462 and I did look B. I was really easy. I probably could have got the whole thing done in an afternoon if I had a better attention span. It has a zip which I'm really pleased about since my new machine didn't come with a zipper foot and the machine shop in town has decided not to open at all this week. So I have to thank the random woman I harrassed in Boyes yesterday at the pattern table who told me how to put in a zip without a zipper foot.

This is what I am planning on doing next:

It's New Look 6515 and the fabric is a 1970s duvet cover from a junk shop that cost the grand total of 4. I might even have enough to get a top and skirt out of it.
14  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / I just found the best fabric shop ever! on: August 05, 2006 10:36:37 AM
There's a junk shop in the town where my parents live that takes all the junk from house clearances. Their whole top floor is fabric! I only found it today. A very quick rummage found these lovely things:

<This image is no longer available.>

A grand total of 7.

-about 2.5 metres of the dark floral
-about 1.5 metres of the beige floral
-just over a metre of the geometric - my favourite!
-the one on the right is a duvet cover but I think it's crying out to be a dress.

I think the middle 2 are from the 70s, the duvet cover from the 80s and I'm not sure how old the dark floral stuff is but it's definitely going to be a skirt.

However, they all stink! They've been in a junk shop for at least 10 years. I'm thinking of putting them on a gentle wash in the machine and drying them on the line. I think the duvet cover should hold up pretty well as it's cotton but I'm not sure about the others.
