I smell someone from the UK... Tongue It's funny how all our gardens look the same.

Anyhoo, that's an absolutely lovely dress. good job.

Oooh, you can't beat a good old terraced garden  Wink

And all those who asked: it's very very easy!

Thanks everyone! I've made it as it is out of the envelope, no alterations at all. As it's a wrap around dress, there's plenty of room under the arms.

There was only a little bit of the polka dot left on the roll so it had to be this way round.

Yet another incarnation of the Butterick 4790 dress. But it's such an awsome pattern, does it matter if everyone's already made one? Mine's made with polycotton for both the plain red and the polka dot section. I've used vintage buttons for the hidden one at the back and the 3 red ones at the front. It does look a little rumpled at the top as I'm really short waisted and didn't make any alterations.

Thanks everyone! I wish you could see the fabric in real life, it almost glows.

First bag ever! I followed the Jordy tutorial but used the variation someone mentioned about leaving the hole in the top of the bag, rather than the bottom corner.

The outer fabric is late 1960's, certainly before 1971 as it had a price tag for shillings still attatched. The lining is some poplin I had left over from a top.

Oh thankyou so much for the tutorial! I have some tiny pieces of hideously expensive antique brocades that I had no idea what to do with. This is perfect for them.
9  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Vintage fabric widths on: May 13, 2007 04:47:48 AM
Does anyone know how wide fabrics were in which decades? I've been going off the design to age a fabric but I've come across some plain lilac crepe which I suspect is as early as 1930s but I can't find out how to date it.
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Re: this is your brain on fabric... dealing with our addictions on: April 24, 2007 12:01:21 PM
I just bought half a roll of fabric from a junk shop for 4. I'm completely addicted! I can't possibly ever use half a roll of one type of fabric. But it's soooo soft!
