2  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / Hamilton on: November 07, 2007 05:24:43 PM
What/where are some thrift stores/op shops in Hamilton?
Or some cheap places to get material.
I only know of spotlight.

Are there any emporium places that have some?
I used to go to Ikes emporium in Auckland.

Oh and its definately not my first project, I've done heaps. I just haven't made anything in a while cause of lack of sewing machine cause of the house burning down.
And when I was sewing heaps, I wasn't on this site.

>_< I can't do much sewing for a few weeks cause we're finally moving back to the house that burnt down (almost a year later its finished!) so I've gotta pack everything up and move and unpack. Dud!

I was bored one day and I've recently just got myself a new sewing machine (my old one stopped working when my house burnt down last year!!) and some cheap cute material just to test it out with.
I did all the different stitches, I made some cushions, and then! I made this super cute skirt out of the 2 materials I had. (They're pyjama material!! I should've made PJS! dangit!)

How cute is that!!! But its REALLY small. It may possibly fit a 3 year old. But I didn't do it perfect, no elastic or zip or anything, so it wouldn't stay on Tongue Its just a toy skirt!!

Then my flattie was so in love with it she wants me to make one for her 5 year old niece, so we bought some more cute material. Its going to be pink with white polka dots and green with white polka dots. But I haven't made that yet!

Anyway, THIS here is the reversable skirt. I wanted one for myself, so I bought some pink and purple material.
Its not my best sewing skills at all, I guess I kind of rushed it a bit, but thats okay, its wearable, reversable, and so cute!
Its my fairy skirt.

And heres what its like on: (Pink side out Cheesy )

I might make a longer one next time, just cause I love that shaped skirt.
And also a round one, not square one.

I would explain how to make it, but I'm sure you all know how Tongue Its pretty much the most simple thing ever!
Comments welcome.

Edit: The pics with the skirt on the floor - Sorry its kind of crumpled! Its just been thrown onto my couch with all my other clothes! eek! Tongue
Also - the pic where I'm wearing it... I just noticed it looks kind of funny. The skirt has a reasonably thick black elastic waste band, and the stripey top also has a longer than usual black band at the bottom. So together .. they look kinda odd!! haha.

Absolutely gorgeous!! Grin
I've always wanted to make a skirt for myself out of ties, but I just never ever do! >_<
7  California / California: North / Re: Northern California kids on: April 19, 2006 08:06:52 PM
p.s. i just noticed you pointed out that you say "y'all" because you're from Texas!  haha, hooray for state-specific terminology!!

oh, no no. I'm not from Texas.. Eek! haha.
I'm from New Zealand. I've never been to America at all.. heh.

Heh, I'm not actually from texas. I'm from New Zealand Tongue

We were going to be in CA in july-ish, (warped tour! Cheesy) but thats when we thought we'd be back in our house (its being rebuilt - it burnt down) by then, but now its looking like we can't come until sept. I'm sad about missing warped, but happy that it wont be as hot, I believe. I HATE summer, heat, sun, all that rubbish.

Oh I absolutely love the a line skirt. A line skirts are my favourite. <3 I wear them all the time. That is beautiful. I think I shall make some A line skirts for myself, and usually I'd just use plain material but thats so cute, you've changed my mind.  Cheesy
