It's always so fun to see what a great job we all do on the stockings and stuffings for this swap!

I purchased the dried gourd, cleaned it, woodburn the design, cut it, painted it, and shellacked  it.
4  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Re: Woodland Christmas stocking on: December 11, 2016 08:32:45 AM
Unfortunately I did not take process pictures.  The main  stocking is wet felted over a resist.  I used a batt I carded with lots of different colors to get the color I wanted. I put thick yarn under the last layer to get the texture. That did not work out as well as I hoped,  but it still looked good.
The roots and branches are a really thick pipe cleaner type wire I found at Michael's which I wrapped and needle felted. The green "leaves" is some cruddy locks I had laying around that I needle felted in the branches. I wasn't sure what I would ever do with them, but they work great for this project.

Beautiful colourway, very lovely. What did you start with as the base, was it a pre-made piece of fabric or roving or...? It looks so thin and light, I can't imagine felting that from bit poofy batts.
I took a piece of roving a bit longer than the length I wanted my scarf, then gently spread it out width-wise. I learned how to make this type of scarf from Tetyana Huffman. She calls it a Nori scarf.

JS I hope your husband is recovering well. Please take good care of yourself during this stressful time.

Steiconi,  I have seen gourds grown the way you describe, as well as grown in molds, and twisted into knots as they grow. While I have grown gourds I have not tried to manipulate their growth.

Metallic leafing over black paint.   I did not intend it to be a rattle,  but that's what the person I gave it to calls it. The seeds do you make a pleasing rattling sound.

I believe this is bamboo wrapped around the gourd.  I love the simple lines.
