11  Difference Makers Silent Auction March 31, 2017 in Crafty Charitable/Social Causes by underthemountain on: January 07, 2017 02:32:43 PM

Hi all!

Difference Makers, a non-profit student run group that my daughter belongs to is hosting their second annual DM Silent Auction on March 31, 2017 6-9pm at Takoma Park Middle School in Silver Spring MD.  Most of you know about the club, but for those of you who don't I put some information at the end of this post.  Smiley

The auction was a huge success last year not only in terms of raising some much needed funds for our club, but also in terms of building community.  Much of the success of it was due to my generous Craftster friends who donated AMAZING items to our auction.  I wish all of you could have been there to hear all the comments.  Some people have never seen handmade items that look so professional and they were shocked to know that someone actually made it.   Grin  I'm hoping that some of you will join in again to help them!

Here are some photos from last year's event:
https://www.facebook.com/makeadifferencewithus/posts/1116636718380148

If anyone is willing to donate an auction item to Difference Makers please send it by March 17 if possible so that I can get the placards, space, everything else made in time.  Please include your name/company name, website, and business card (1 for each item since people may gift them and 1-2 extra for me to share with others that might have lost the bidding and would like to contact you).   I can also provide you with an acknowledgement letter that you can use for tax purposes if you itemize and give me an approximate value.  Smiley  The items will be put on display for 1 week during which time the students can bid on them and will end with a night event on March 31st where parents can come in and bid on the items.

Please send your items to the following address:
Difference Makers
Attn: Bryan Goehring/Craftsters Friends
9295 Maxwell Court
Laurel MD 20723

Please mark it Crafsters otherwise they might open it up and lose the contents and please PM me when you send to him so that I can ask Bryan to be on the lookout for it.  Thanks!   Grin

I have already received some wonderful items from my friends at the Canada meetup. THANK YOU for your continued kindness and support!!!
Rox

Details of swap: (thanks to Dulcinea and Sevsonlygirl!)
This is a swap for the geezers.  The idea here is that we've all been crafting for eons, and are pretty good at what we do.

This is also a swap where there is a sizeable commitment, both for time, and resources.  We are going to be crafting one really big, really nice item for our partner.  If you cannot commit to the time or resources, please consider carefully before signing up for this swap.

You'll make up a list of 5-10 large things that you would love if someone made for you.  You'll also make up a list of 5-10 things that you're really good at, that you'd love to make for your fellow geezers.  And if you can make it from your stash, and reduce the stash, making room for more, NEW stash, so much the better.

What's a large item, you ask?  generally, we're talking something that takes 3 or more hours, is large in physical size, or costs $30 or more in materials (or any combination of those).

You need to post to this thread, so that it comes up as unread replies if I have something to tell y'all.

I will not tolerate flakers.  We all will have 2.5 months to craft and send out.  That should be enough time.  A DC or Customs number is required, if available.  If you do not have a DC or Customs number, you MUST send me a scan of your postal receipt, showing that the package was sent out.

If you are a week late sending (after the sendout date), you will receive a temporary negative.  This will be changed back to In Progress upon proof of sending.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Made a little DM tee for our elf.  Lana is going to use him to do some RAKs this season.  She's inviting all the other Difference Makers to join in with ideas of their own.  Smiley
His tee is embroidered with a smaller version of the patch I used for the polos.  All DMers that do a RAK will be receiving an iron-on patch made with this design. Smiley

Very cool scarf/hat sets!  Smiley

Lana and I crafted some fun little paper elves for the Thoughtful Treasures Program at the NIH Children's Inn.  They put a little treat into each child's mailbox so that they have something to look forward to each day.  Smiley  We made these with the Sizzix doll pattern.  We didn't have a die for elf clothing so we mixed and matched from a couple of sets and cut out our own hat.  We ended up making 80 of them so we were able to keep 5 for ourselves!  Smiley

So happy you liked your package Luck!

We received!!!
First for me...my first hoop!  And it's of Lana!  Luck made one of these for her daughter and decided to make one for me too.  LOVE!

And then a wonderful bag that Luck designed for her daughter and decided to make for Lana. (There's a theme here...LOL!)   Lana love it!  I think it is especially funny because there was this boy in Lana's camp that used to tease her by calling her Llama!  HAHA.

Thanks so much Karen!
It was great dancing with you!
