I also call her TSM...I think I call you RLB and craftylittlemonkey is CLM...I know people shorten my user name to always or AIMR....we must have been nuts to pick such LONG user names! Grin

Anyway, keep those projects going---11 days left!!!

oooo--I meant to tell anyone who knows pinokeeo that she is doing well and will be back to join the fun maybe in 2012!  I miss her awesome projects and recycling! I love it when I hear from missing in action members!  Kiss

I think it is wonderful that kindness is spread so easily from one act...it sure gives me hope that we are still a caring bunch of people that believe in face-to- face interaction and small acts of giving from the heart...this kind of project, lovingly and beautifully handmade, means so much more than a text message or a post on FB or other social media sites...good for you for being there for your friend and her family

I love all of the beautiful hearts, but the HOPE is the most meaningful to me...good job and thanks for sharing another positive thread during this special time of year...

I loved the little garden hose at the end of the first link...and the porch swing...I am not really into the doll house things, though...I think I prefer the fantasy type homes and "artsy" homes...they are probably not to scale and a bit unrealistic, but they appeal to me more than duplicating the "real" world...very cute and interesting stuff and lots of inspiration, though...but I don't think I could ever make a hobby of making some of those gorgeous, detailed and time-consuming houses...those people are passionate, aren't they!?

I bet you do it, too, that1girl!!  wow!  And so many of your projects are crochet or knit...those take a lot of time!

I plan on using January to finish off some WIPs...I think it might be our first theme! Cheesy
15405  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Poodle Mug Rug! on: December 20, 2011 09:10:34 AM
I used something like this:

http://www.quiltmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/selfbinding-quilt-lesson2.pdf

Basically, when you quilt, it "shrinks" the backing fabric a bit, so be sure to cut a bit larger, quilt, and then cut off what you need--1 inch or so...fold it over, pin, and stitch!  If you are not a super straight stitcher, use the dang zig zag...or both! Cheesy

This one seems a bit more complicated...

I am a lefty as well and it does take some practice...you basically just need a 45 degree angle mark on a ruler...have you considered maybe making a "fake" binding on mug rugs?

Basically, all you do is make the back bigger, fold it to the front twice and stitch...I do this when I want a fast project or if I am making Quilt for Kids...

YAY for scraps...you are going to be addicted to making these and other small quilt projects!  Have fun!

I love how versatile the pieces are!  Making some of the pieces reversible...dirt turned into mountains...I am sure Levi will come up with more ways to use all of the pieces in ways we adults can't even imagine!

Good job for giving him the building blocks for creative play...maybe when he gets older you could do bats for his cave...a castle with knights and a drawbridge!...some sort of planets mobile for his earth scene...

He is one lucky kiddo to have such a creative mom...congrats!

What a good job you did for a first quilt project!!  And, it will make such a personal gift for your Mom since she loves poodles!

My only suggestion would be to use an interface or heatbond to your light colored appliques if you do not want the background prints to show through...personally, I like it with your poodle because it makes it seem translucent and airy!

I really can't see the seams of your binding...are you joining them diagonally?  I agree that seams make the item more handmade and give the quilted items charm!

Again, awesome and hope to see more of your projects!!

Love the color combos
