I'll be honest and say I'm not really following any particular size, just going with the general construction of the sweater and my gauge; if I had gone with the recommended size for my cross-back measurement the XL would have been too small -- until I measured my back I had no idea I was *that* broad shouldered
But anyways, what I've done is go with my gauge (17.5sts/4") and my arm measurement (12") and just checked the fit periodically as I've been knitting; the sleeves are comfortably snug, which is what I was aiming for and hopefully the narrower back section will mean the body tube's not starting halfway to my knees(!); it's 25" long. Our measurements probably don't match up exactly but I the theory remains the same I guess; personally if I were you and happy about the width of the sleeves on the small I'd go with that, just making your back portion longer like I did.
As for how many stitches I'll CO/pick up for the body tube, well, we'll see! I'm guessing around about the M/L sizes (as long as it's a multiple of four I should be OK) but I'm willing to have a bit of trial and error because I'm so pleased with the way the sleeve tube has come together; I really, really
want this to work this time!
Sorry for waffling, I really need to work on making my posts a bit more to-the-point! Hope to have helped slightly
I'm having faith in the ribbing that it will conform to my stomach! LOL
Me too. Lots and lots and lots of faith...
