161  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / This is Slim on: November 07, 2007 10:26:02 AM
Meet Slim, the latest in my snowman collection!

I was working on another project and found it was too thick for my liking so I cut a section off and Slim was created.  A little paint, a scarf and hat and he came to life!

163  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Does the amount of people on Craftster affect the speed? on: October 25, 2007 03:16:26 PM
Craftster has been running VERY slow for me today and I couldn't figure out why.  Then, I looked at the top of the page and it says there are 3118 guests and 263 members currently on here.  Personally, I've never seen the number so high and I wonder if that's what is affecting it today?
164  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Artist's Choice on: October 25, 2007 09:37:35 AM
This is a Trish Kristoffersen pattern I finished a few days ago.  It's called Artist's Choice because you have the option of making 2 different doilies from the same pattern.  The choice was either a round doily, like I made, or an oval one.  The difference was in the first 15 rounds and then both doilies finished the same from round 16-26.

I'm planning to give it to a co-worker as a surprise.

165  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / PM Limit ? on: October 11, 2007 02:53:47 PM
I tried doing a search for this but do you know how many times PM is used on this board  Grin

What I'm wondering is:

1) is there a limit for the number of PMs you can have in your inbox at one time?

2) I've heard that you can sort your PMs and I wonder if someone can give me directions on how to do this
or point me to a tutorial.

THANKS!
166  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Jigsaw Puzzle Quilt on: October 06, 2007 06:06:10 PM
I have this fantastic idea in my head but I'm not a designer so I'm hoping someone else has already done it.

Has anyone seen a Jigsaw Puzzle Quilt pattern?

I did do a net search but only came up with one and it's not quite what I was looking for.

Web addresses or titles of books you've seen them in would be wonderful!
167  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Printable Fabric on: September 27, 2007 05:08:10 PM
I'm interested in using printable fabric for a quilt I'm working on (it's for my son and I'd like to put his baby and current picture on the back.)  However, when I was in the quilt store earlier this week looking at printable fabric, the lady there told me to keep it away from all water sources (including seam ironing.)  The instructions also said to set with a dry iron as printer ink is water soluble.  So, can you not use printable fabric on an item that might be washed?
168  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Cotton Fat Quarter swap anyone? on: August 18, 2007 12:20:10 PM
I'm interested in doing a swap for cotton fat quarters and wondered if anyone else would be interested.

My thought are:

exchange 4 fat quarters with your partner

you could swap with 1 or 2 people

you get to specify the colors you want

you can use from your stash as long as the colors fit your partners choices

this doesn't need to be a long swap as all we are sending are FQ's so I think 2 weeks from receiving
partners to sending is good enough.

I would start signups around the 8th of September

Any thoughts or interest?

169  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Anne of Green Gables on: August 16, 2007 07:15:42 AM
I was discussing my crafting love with a lady at work a few days ago and I told her I would bring in my photo album to show her some of my work.  As I was flipping through it deciding which pictures to take out (some of my first and horrible items), I came across a picture of a doll I made back in '04.  Since we didn't have a digital 'back then', I only had a regular picture but I found out you can take digital pictures of regular ones and here's the result:

I made her for a doll exchange I did with another group and I've always been sorry since that I gave her away.  The entire doll, minus the straw hat is crochet.

I should look and see if I still have the pattern.  I did find the website I purchased her pattern from but it appears that she's no longer available (or maybe I just couldn't find her.)
170  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Floral Photos on: July 23, 2007 09:05:24 AM
A few years ago I started taking pictures of flowers (with my regular film camera) and enlarging those I liked, framing them and hanging them in our bedroom.  Well, this summer my husband decided to join me and he too started taking pictures (with a digital.)  These are a few that we have taken this summer.  Comments and critiques are welcome.

This single peony grows in our front yard and is only nice for about 1 week each year.  I try to take a good picture every year and when I headed out with the camera a few weeks ago, there was this enormous bee flying around.  With some patience and nerve, I got close enough to take this picture.  Unfortunately on here the picture doesn't show as well as on my computer screen but I love how the pollen shows up on the bee's back.

This is the center of a marigold and if you look in the upper left hand corner, you will spot a little green bug.  We didn't even realize the bug was in the picture until we got home and loaded the pictures onto the computer.

I'm not even sure what kind of flower this is but the detail that showed up of the center
        of the flower is wonderful!

This pansy also grows in my front yard

I'm actually amazed at how well digital cameras take close ups.  I was alway of the mind that they couldn't do as well as a 'regular' camera but I'm now sold on the fact they can!
