5551  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Very Important Quilting Question on: November 01, 2006 02:48:57 PM
What a wonderful thing you are doing and I'm sure it will be very much appreciated!

I, too, would applique the hat onto the top
5552  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 12" Crochet Square of the Month Craftalong - STARTED! on: November 01, 2006 10:52:42 AM
So, here goes - Novembers picks!

For this month, I decided that I was going to make the squares ahead to see if I could get them to work out for me and, also, if anyone had questions, I had at least made them and could hopefully answer.

For the easy square, I followed the directions exactly, using worsted weight yarn and an I hook (5.5 mm) and my square came out just over 12".  So, I know that this one is okay.  Click below to be taken to the easy  pattern:

Easy

Now, the experience square takes a little more explanation - when you open the link you will see that the designer says "This square is easy to make..." well, I disagreed with that statement for 2 reasons.  First, the way it's written is different than I have ever seen and a little confusing to follow and second, you have to work on 2 different rows at the same time and I think that moves it to the experienced area.  I also found 2 errors and I show the corrections below the link.  I followed the directions and used worsted weight and an H hook (5 mm) and came out to exactly 12".    So, click below for the experienced square:

Experienced

Corrections:

Rnd 12 should read - Ch5.  (Dc in next sc, ch2, 4 times...

Rnd 14 should read - Bcl in same st as slst.  (Ch2, sk 2 sc, cl in next sc, 6 times...

Hope you all enjoy these and I can't wait to see pictures!

5553  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Christmas Stocking Swap 2 (SIGNUPS Oct. 13-26; SENDOUTS Nov. 20) on: November 01, 2006 10:38:31 AM
I finished my stocking this morning!  I'm fairly happy with how it turned out.  The instructions were terrible but with hubby's help, I figured things out.

would it be blasphemy to use Red Heart for a knitted stocking?  To my mind, it seems like a waste of wool for something that's going to hang up and not spend any time keeping anything warm.

In my, not so humble opinion, it's not a waste at all the use Red Heart for the stocking.  I've crocheted a number of Christmas items with this and love them!
5555  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: The Great Craftster Scavenger Hunt Round 2 Swap Gallery!! on: October 30, 2006 06:22:25 PM
Stuff is fantastic, so far!  I love the clock.

I need to sign up for the next one of these because I can see that I wasn't thinking 'outside the box' enough when I made my items.  Oh well, I can't do anything now that I've already send (and should hopefully be there soon!)

according to yarnstandarts.com my yarn is sport weight. i am using 3 mm hook and i think to get the 12" i will have to work 10 more rows or so...

Yikes, that's a lot more work to get to the right size.  Maybe next month you should try using worsted weight and a larger hook  Grin
5557  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Re: username? on: October 26, 2006 06:28:50 PM
mr.bean, I'm glad you asked this question because I've had the same one.  I picked my name because, at the time I joined, I was homeschooling 2 children but, shortly after joining, I was getting people ask me if my name had anything to do with Homer Simpson (I totally dislike the Simpsons) and so I was thinking of changing, too.  However, after reading everything here, I think I'll just stay with what I decided on and correct anyone who thinks I'm linked to that Homer.
5558  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: BED DOLL on: October 26, 2006 06:11:54 PM
I've made a number of them and all the patterns have come from the web - do a google search for crochet bed doll.
5559  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: So many peeps get married in October on: October 26, 2006 06:09:24 PM
Wonderful job on them both but I am partial to the pineapple design.  I think giving afghans for wedding presents is fantastic and I try to do it whenever possible!
5560  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: golf/safari theme baby blanket on: October 26, 2006 06:05:50 PM
I love that!  The colors are gorgeous together.  Not something I would have picked for a baby but since it's not me having the baby, I don't get a say.  Golf themed baby room???  Hmmm...
