5531  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 12" Crochet Square of the Month Craftalong - NOVEMBER squares are up! on: November 05, 2006 02:18:59 PM
Oh yeah, we just got a new computer and so now I can post pictures from home rather than having to go to hubby's office.  Now I just have to figure out the cropping, etc. on this new machine.

Anyway, here's my November easy square:

and, the experienced square - I was too lazy to sew in all the ends before taking the picture so if you see any loose yarn, that's why:

Such a cute hat and great color combination!  Can't wait to see what else you make him.

Wow, you were busy!  I really like the bright colors you used, especially on the baby items.  But, I think my favorite is the pink hat with the fluffy edging!

Great hats!  I really like the colors.  I think the pink hat (first picture) needs a large flower on the side, that would make it better.

Okay, I need to ask a question - it was suggested earlier that partners agree on the amount of items they are sending - is anyone else, besides my partner and I, doing this?  And does someone want to tell me what small amounts, medium amounts and large amounts are?

I certainly will have many questions, and probably very silly ones at that  Tongue

There are never silly questions when you are trying to learn something!  so, ask away.

I taught myself to quilt - I knew how to sew so I thought it couldn't be that hard.  I think I found some patterns on the internet and then just followed what they said.  I also took questions I had to the local quilting store and they were great in answering them.

What a wonderful thing you are doing and I'm sure it will be very much appreciated!

I, too, would applique the hat onto the top
5538  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 12" Crochet Square of the Month Craftalong - STARTED! on: November 01, 2006 10:52:42 AM
So, here goes - Novembers picks!

For this month, I decided that I was going to make the squares ahead to see if I could get them to work out for me and, also, if anyone had questions, I had at least made them and could hopefully answer.

For the easy square, I followed the directions exactly, using worsted weight yarn and an I hook (5.5 mm) and my square came out just over 12".  So, I know that this one is okay.  Click below to be taken to the easy  pattern:

Now, the experience square takes a little more explanation - when you open the link you will see that the designer says "This square is easy to make..." well, I disagreed with that statement for 2 reasons.  First, the way it's written is different than I have ever seen and a little confusing to follow and second, you have to work on 2 different rows at the same time and I think that moves it to the experienced area.  I also found 2 errors and I show the corrections below the link.  I followed the directions and used worsted weight and an H hook (5 mm) and came out to exactly 12".    So, click below for the experienced square:

Rnd 12 should read - Ch5.  (Dc in next sc, ch2, 4 times...

Rnd 14 should read - Bcl in same st as slst.  (Ch2, sk 2 sc, cl in next sc, 6 times...

Hope you all enjoy these and I can't wait to see pictures!

I finished my stocking this morning!  I'm fairly happy with how it turned out.  The instructions were terrible but with hubby's help, I figured things out.

would it be blasphemy to use Red Heart for a knitted stocking?  To my mind, it seems like a waste of wool for something that's going to hang up and not spend any time keeping anything warm.

In my, not so humble opinion, it's not a waste at all the use Red Heart for the stocking.  I've crocheted a number of Christmas items with this and love them!
