5411  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: Winter Holiday Decorating Craftalong! on: December 10, 2006 03:28:57 PM
I have been wondering what this craftalong was all about so I finally took the time to read all the pages and look at all the pictures.  Wow, there are some fantastic trees!  I have to say that one of my favorite is retroeva's small kitchen tree and that's because I collect miniature kitchen utensils and that would look perfect in my house (where did you get all those kitchen ornaments?)

Here is our tree - we call him Charlie Brown - he is 22 years old and was purchased the first year my hubby and I were married.  While he doesn't look too bad with decorations and lights, he looks very pathetic when standing 'undecorated' and reminds me of the tree in Charlie Brown's Christmas - thus his name!

I crocheted the tree skirt and 99.5% of the decorations are hand made by either myself or I have received them through swaps.

Here are 2 of my favorites:

These are both glass balls that I dribbled paint into and then spent time twisting them to cover the inside and then turned them over to let the excess paint drain out.

Sitting deep inside the branches is this little hat:

I'm hoping to start this swap the second week of January - hopefully some people will be ready to swap again by then after the holidays.

That is one adorable creature.  When my oldest son was very young, he used to call them Flants  Grin

are they just crocheted moc. lights or did you crochet over pre-exsiting lights?

They are totally moc - just stuffed with batting.

Welcome, esmerelda!  It's always great to have new people join.  Glad to hear you are learning to crochet - good luck on the patterns and feel free to ask for help if you need it.

How do you get it to curve?  Does it have wire in it?

It does have wire - I actually used a clothes hanger.  That was one of the toughest parts to do - you were supposed to stuff it and then try and shove the wire into the stuffing, not fun!

Lipzilla, the first pattern is cute - the biggest difference between it and the ones I made is that the pattern you posted uses thread.

I couldn't find the String of Lights pattern in the second link.
5418  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Gigantic Candy Cane on: December 08, 2006 07:25:38 AM
This is another item I found while decorating yesterday.  I made it a few years ago and the pattern was from the Crafting Traditions magazine.

It's 24" from the bottom to the top of the curve.

Any chance you remember where you got the pattern from?

I figured someone would ask this so I spent some time today looking for it - I couldn't find the exact one but this PATTERN is similar.
