4891  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / What happened to the International Crochet Swap? on: May 24, 2007 02:52:08 PM
Not sure if this is the proper place to ask this or not but I can't find a swap I was keeping my eyes on.

Anyone know what happened to the International Crochet Swap (I know the name was longer but that's all I remember of it right now)?

I'll show them since I remembered to take pictures.

It's a BAG!!! for when she goes visiting  Grin   Big enough for the essentials but not big enough that it looks like she is moving in.

I wanted to use black material but since I didn't have enough of one kind, I made it 2 sided.  The handles are nylon.

Side one,

Side two,

Here's the Monster crochet link:  http://monstercrochet.blogspot.com/?emc=intellicontact&m=4805871&v=107335&l=8

and Huggems has some interesting things, http://www.huggems.netfirms.com/pindex4.html - scroll down about 1/2 way for some free patterns.

There's many more I like but they've been mentioned already.

What about a simple one like this:

If you used variegated colors you could get the same affect.

I've been crocheting for over 30 years and so I think I can give you a few recommendations.

I'd start with something simple like a dishcloth (simple patterns can be found on the back of some cotton yarn wrappers.)
I agree with Jase that a kids beginner book would also be a good place to start.

One of the most important things, I think, is to try to always crochet with the same tension.  If you start a project, leave it for a few days and start again but don't pay attention to your tension, your item will either grown wider or shrink smaller.

Personally, I don't worry about gauge unless I'm making something to wear.  I find that if you want a project to be larger, just use a larger hook and vice versa.

The most important thing though, is to have fun!

I also received a package today from vee_power.

More great orange fabric and some very yummy candy:

This piece was so interesting that I thought it deserved it's own picture - the design along the bottom is also along the top but didn't get into the picture (I may have to find a different use for this than in the quilt since it will be hard to cut it up):

I now have 10 pieces of material for the quilt!!

I received a few days ago from igobylorib and am finally getting around to posting pictures.

She sent me a beautiful, long purple/silver necklace:

AND

some great orange fabric for my son's quilt I'm planning to make:

THANKS Lori!

I received today from ChristinaCoghill !!

She sent me this most adorable amigurumi pig.  It's now the 5th in my collection and the first sitting one.

So, that wraps this swap up - thanks everyone for participating.  Hopefully someone else will take on the challenge of running another round.

flanman and smithyboy are closely related, that's why I suggested maybe she could borrow them!
