521  Re: Sweat shoppe swap Round 10! (SSS 10) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by Homerof2 on: July 10, 2007 03:49:47 PM
I'm finished my bags!

This is one of them - they are all approximately 12" x 12" and are fully lined.

Along with the BLUE and white stripes, these patterns are also available:

I received a fantastic parcel from ZaftigMomma today!  Wow, do I feel spoiled.

When I opened the box to get out my parcel (there were actually 4 of them today), I saw this unusual shape wrapped in paper.  "Hmm, I thought, kinda looks like a hat box, I wonder what's in it."  After unwrapping all the red strapping tape, this is what I found:

I could hardly wait to get home to take a picture so I could empty the box and see what all kinds of candy there were.  Look at it all!!

any kind I could imagine and then some - even edible paper which I've never heard of.

The orange fabric is going to be added to the collection for my son's quilt and that candy is going to be added to my tummy  Grin  (over a long stretch of time, of course!) and I'm going to find a good use for the box, too.  Can never have enough fancy boxes!

2 adorable amigurumi arrived at my house today from cindy_23492.

A cute little teddy complete with shawl and an albino pig! (at least that's what I'm calling it) which is #7 in my collection.

I was wondering about the "eye-spy" theme-- so the blue patch on bottom right would be something like "I spy a monkey, what do you see?"

Not quite like that (I know you can't see that square very good but it's actually the Cat in the Hat).  Here's what I plan to do:

I sat down with the quilt and found 30 items on it that a child and/or parent and child can look for and then I'm planning to make that into an alphabetized list, cover it with plastic and give it with the quilt.

Here's an 'example' list for the following 2 squares (can you find them all)

I Spy:

pitchfork          mouse eating corn          backpack
weathervane    ruler                             3 chickens
hammer           horse                            clock

When you have an entire quilt to look over, it takes awhile to find everything.  I realize that when a baby is very small the quilt is just something pretty for them to look at but as they grow older, it becomes educational in a fun way!

526  Quickest quilt I've ever made! in Quilting: Completed Projects by Homerof2 on: June 18, 2007 05:37:37 PM
It seems lately that there is a story behind every quilt I make and this one is no different!

A young couple in our church is having a baby in August and my plan was to wait until the baby came and once I knew the gender of it, I'd either finish a boy quilt I have on the go or make a girl quilt.  Well, yesterday in church it was announced that a baby shower was being held on July 4, one month BEFORE the baby is due.  When I  asked about it, I was told that since they knew they were having a girl, there was no need to wait until the baby was born (which I don't agree with but I don't really have a say since I'm not hosting it.)

Two weeks, not a problem, I thought - then I remembered we are leaving later this week for holidays and won't be back until July 2nd!  So, I figured if I was going to make a quilt, it had to be this week or not at all.

I came up with a plan early this morning for a very simple 'Eye Spy' type quilt and around 8:45 a.m., drew up my plan.  Then in the next 3 hours, I picked out the material, ironed it, cut it, pieced it and finally pinned it together ready for quilting.  After a little break, I went back to my next 3 hour session.  This included quilting in the ditch on the straight lines between the squares but then I decided it needed more quilting so to make it more 'girly' I stitched a heart into the middle (or close to) of each square.  Picked out the binding material, cut, folded and ironed the binding and finally attached it.  6 hours later, it was finished.

All I have to do now is make up the Eye Spy chart to add along with it.

So, without further words - may I present my 6 hour quilt:

I know it's very simple (in fact, the simplest I've ever made) but I'm still happy with it and my 15 yo son thinks it's cool, so that must count for something  Grin

I received some fantastic polymer clay magnets from dragonflyducky today.

I had listed 4 different ideas for themes and she made some for each theme!  I can't decide which ones I like best but the faces on the peas are so cute.  I feel so spoiled  Grin

I received a package from reenreen today, all the way from Australia.

She sent me candy (green apple licorice, chewy turtles and chewy pineapple), some thread and a kinder surprise toy (with a puzzle inside).

THANKS!!  the licorice is so tasty and I'm sure the other stuff will be too!

They say that confession is good for the soul, so I better confess that I actually made this item a few months ago but decided to hold off posting a picture until June because it was pink!

I was part of the Frankenteddy swap and decided I would make a practise one before the swap and this is what I came up with:

I was thinking of giving it to friends who had a baby girl a few months ago but decided that the arms and legs weren't attached good enough for a toy (the button eyes were added after deciding to keep it.)
