1  Koala - bred in captivity in Sweden! in Knitting: Completed Projects by Helenmay on: June 14, 2006 02:48:35 AM

Bred in captivity in Sweden and soon to be released into the wild!!

Here is a koala I have made for friends in Australia who's baby is due any second! I thought I should just take a quick photo before he is packed off in a box to the other side of the world!

He is the first toy I have ever knitted but was soooo quick I think there will be plenty more to come. I made him from this pattern http://www.rnib.org.uk/xpedio/groups/public/documents/Visugate/public_acnapr92.hcsp?printPage=1#P157_17183 which I found on a random Google search. There were no finished photos in the pattern so I was pleasantly suprised when he ended up looking like a koala!

Here is another one to add to the collection...

It was made from a mohair/acrylic yarn which I knitted with 2 strands held together on 4.5mm needles, and I just made it a little bit longer too.

It's the first thing I've knitted with sleeves and I was amazed at how easy they were!!

3  Fishermans shrug KAL anyone? - free pattern in Knitalongs by Helenmay on: April 09, 2006 02:56:07 AM
Does anyone fancy joining me to make this Fishermans Shrug?

Free pattern here: http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/50718.html

It states 'easy' on the pattern but I'm fairly new to knitting so was hoping that by starting a KAL some of you brilliant knitterns out there would be able to help me out along the way!!  Wink

So, who's in?....

4  Re: Clapotis from Knitty in Knitalongs by Helenmay on: March 12, 2006 06:05:58 AM
After reading all 47 pages  Shocked I'm finally ready to join in the fun - albeit over a year after this KAL started!!

All your beautiful Clapoti (? whats the plural of Clapotis?!) had spurred me on and I wanted to create an equally beautiful one, but when I went to my LYS yesterday the selection was rather limited. I live in Sweden and most yarns seemed to be thick wool or cheapy arcylic. I eventually bought a wool/acrylic mix in purples, blues and pinks which I thought was quite pretty, but it is a lot heavier weight than the ones everyone else has created.

I've just finished the first repeat on sec 2 and it looks like this:

It is not as pretty as the yarn looked when it was in a ball and I'm wondered if it'll be too thick and wooly for me to drop the stitches...

Its 75% wool 25% acrylic - has anyone blocked anything similar? Does it give it a bit more drape when blocked.

I'm not sure if I should carry on and end up having a bit thick wooly Clapotis, or admit defeat and buy some nice expensive yarn off the internet as the LYs stores here are a bit rubbish! Any suggestions...
