11  UNITED STATES / Massachusetts / Boston/Cambridge Fabric Stores? on: August 08, 2006 07:30:09 AM
Does anyone know of good local fabric stores?

I usually go to Fabric Place in Framingham or Woburn, or Joanns on Route 9, but sometimes I just need some thread or a zipper or I want to pop in someplace fun to get some fabric inspiration and I don't know where to go.

Or does anyone have a favorite yarn store? There seem to be waaaay more of these!
12  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Birdy dish towel for my ma on: July 28, 2006 02:45:15 PM
Hurray! Thanks to a swap with Heroinechic I got a "how to" embroidery kit. Hurray.

So I made this for my mom's birthday, I have two more towels so it might be a gift in series. They are waffle towels from crate and barrell, very nice.

(the pattern is from needlecrafter.com) Thank you heroinechic for getting me started!!

and the details: the underside of the wings is a slightly darker blue. And I was *so glad* all the sulky pen washed out.

My mom says it's too pretty to use which bums me out. It's craft, not art, therefore USE IT!  Wink
13  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / My lunch is going to taste sooo good tomorrow! on: June 12, 2006 01:16:21 PM
So I've been wanting to make a variation of this for a long time, and it worked out after some revisions. My first inspiration came from this:

It's really wide on the bottom 'cause I wanted to fit a sandwich size plastic container flat so that nothing would leak. I've been dreaming of a lunch bag that would do this.

look all that it holds:

And my first cut away handle that I stiffened with chop sticks from our last take out meal (unused of course):

Now I can carry my lunch in style!
14  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Wanna see another Nautie Nautaloid?! [Now with Fun Friend!] on: June 12, 2006 06:26:04 AM
Hurray, I finally finished mine. It's much smaller than I thought it would be but that's easy enough to fix.

What fun!

Here he is:

And another view:

I only made 6 tenticles. I can't wait to send this along to my niece.
15  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / My birdy Isabeau on: May 17, 2006 02:19:43 PM
I made this Isabeau for a swap. The pattern was so easy and wonderful (though I made a few mistakes. . . ). Thanks so much for Sylvie and ChezPlum.com for posting a free pattern Kiss (here: http://www.chezplum.com/?page_id=2 ). I am so buying the tote version to make for myself.

the rockin' button (swap theme was "forest friends")

the even cooler lining fabric which I hand sewed in - came out better than expected.

Let me know if you have tried the tote pattern!
16  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Glove Bunny on: May 13, 2006 10:18:21 AM
So my wonderfully awesome fiancee works part time at a YMCA and made the following to cheer up a crying little girl. Too bad she doesn't like bunnies!! He's so proud of it I promised to post it on crafster.

Made from one latex glove with love:

the front

the side

and the cute bunny behind.

feel free to tell my loved one how awesome his creation is  Wink
17  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re-use boxer shorts? Totally gross or totally kosher? on: May 02, 2006 01:56:16 PM
So, my wonderfully awesome, clean boyfriend has some very cute boxers that have busted a hole. . . Is it cool to re-use the fabric in things I may give to someone else (after several thorough washings with bleach) or is that way lame and sketchy?
18  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects / Nautical Star tee-shirt on: March 24, 2006 04:14:52 PM
My first iron-on shirt ($2.25 from target - mossimo too!) that I made for the Star Swap Round 3 (swaps are very fun!)

detail of the front bottom. The big star got a little messed up when I ironed on the small ones (I touched the iron on part without the protective tissue. . . ). The star points were hard to stick down, I hope they stay!

The back neck area. Hope ya'll like it  Smiley
19  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Starlicious Tote with reverse applique on: March 24, 2006 04:10:14 PM
Hurray - my second bag!!

I made this for the Star Swap Round 3

The outside fabric is an upolstery remnant (hurray), the interior fun stars with a small pocket. The red is a bright red not really pink. . .

I did the stars with reverse applique, they will fray over time but that's the intention.

Next time I will use interfacing to stiffen more.

Hopefully it looks more rock star than wizard  Wink. Let me know what you think!
20  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Wanna see another Tychus?? on: February 13, 2006 05:57:53 PM
Here it is!

I made it for my boyfriend (who picked out the colors) but I think I wear it more than he does. I want to make another maybe smaller/shorter, it comes down to my eyes. I think this was the fastest hat ever. (it's from Knitty.com)

Has anyone tried the tychus in stockinette stitch?

yay knitting!
