This is a piece that my co-designer and I did for a charity fashion show called Discard Avant Garb. Lots of local artists, designers, and generally creative people participate, and the only rule is that each piece has to be made from recycled materials-- the nickname for the show is "Trashion." This was our first year making a design for the show. We used a pink vinyl garment bag for the corset top, and it's boned with plastic packing strips (the kind used to bind cardboard boxes together for shipping), there's a hoop skirt underneath the whole thing made of a clear vinyl garment bag and more packing strips, the bubble skirt and silver parts of the train are made from silver mylar emergency blankets, and the blue and green parts of the train are some inflatable inner tubes my co-designer found while she was camping at the lake one weekend.
Hope you enjoy the photos-- our AWESOME model is a neighbor of my co-designer (And if she looks like she's making a lot of funny faces, it's because to calm her nerves we told her to pretend she was Derek Zoolander)
