11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / French Patternmaker dress on: August 03, 2007 02:35:52 PM
So... I went to France this summer, and returned with some beautiful sheer floral fabric.  I knew I wanted to make a dress out of it, but i was unsure of how make the top of the dress look, because i was bored with the plain scoop or straight neck dresses i have been making.  So I went to the store that gives me the most inspiration for dresses - anthropologie - and lo and behold!- i found a lovely one.

- wow that's a long link
anyways here's how it turned out.

the green and black fabric i used wasn't from france - good ol' Hancock.
Oh- here's the top portion... the work of the devil.  I had to cut the black cotton in the curved shape of each scoop and do other tedious things with it to make it look how i liked. ack. ack.

Et ici est the fabric from France.  The stripes on the fabric made the pleating look very nice.

Oh - incase you looked too closely at the anthropologie dress - the back of the dress does not have those circle scoops, it's just plain straps.

So.. there's the beauty.  I hope you enjoyed it.

that looks fantastic.. it's amazing what beatiful things one can make using seemingly ugly fabric

i actually like it without sleeves.. with that shirt you have on in the pic with it because it brings out the red/orange stripes

20  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Face Purse (Man or woman?) on: May 02, 2006 01:02:03 PM
Here's the story:  I lost my favoritepursethatwentwitheverything purse over spring break and was pretty bummed out. Soooo... when I got home I decided I needed to make a new purse (and finally had an excuse to make one for myself), and I got inspired and came up with this:

The face was originally supposed to be a woman, but the features aren't very feminine, so-- I'll let you decide whatever you think it is.

Yeah, this is the back, just in case you wanted to see it, but there isn't much to it, just gingham (?) fabric cut in random strips and sewed on then w/ zigzag.

So this is a close up of the face which has A LOT of stitching on it -- as in -- satin stitching, stitching on face, circles for cheeks, stitching on hair, stitching over hair (the hair is gray felt by the way) and then stitching on the blue fabric the buttons are on.

And this is the left side of the front... and the lighter purple looking wisps are actually blue netting stitched on so it gives it a different color.. and yeah there was a lot of stitching on this too.

So I pretty just went crazy with stitching and thread and etc. and this is how it turned out! I hope you like it!  oh-- and I'm sorry the pictures were so big, they didn't look that big when I was re-sizing them.
