21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Prayer Flag Swap on: May 03, 2017 09:57:14 AM
I didn't want this to fall off my radar or for me to fill up my swap dance card with other swaps that are tempting me mightily.

The timeline I am considering is:

Signups: 11-21 May (ten days)
Sendout: 10 June (three weeks +1 day crafting period)

I've been absent and haven't commented upon A LOT of the patches. I'll have to try and do that later today. CLM and I did an unofficial swap and she finally received. Unfortunately, she cannot post right now and asked me to post pictures. I was very happy that she liked them.

When we agreed to do a swap behind the swap, I asked CLM what her preference was for the patches I was to make for her. Her reply was, "I would love it if you simply made me something in exactly your own style that represents you and your likes specifically. I'm making a sewing machine cover and collecting from as many peeps as I can so I see them and think of them every time I go for my machine."

I read that a couple times...then had a bit of an existential crisis. I had too many things that I "like." How was I supposed to choose? And since (after some research) CLM really is waaaay more off the grid as far as geek-likes, I didn't want to do something that she just didn't get or had no connection to. That's just not how I make stuff for people. And then there was the "your own style" thing. I had no idea how to define that. I had no idea what that meant! I. Was. FREAKING. OUT! Who doesn't know what their style is? ME! That's who!

I took a day to freak out...and then did what I would do for any other swap partner. I stalked myself. I also went into my art notebook and looked for projects I wrote down or outlined; but never got around to making.

While I don't necessarily think that portraits from photos are my style yet, it is something I want to work on getting better at. So I took a picture I had been meaning to try to duplicate, and stitched it up. This is a picture of me and my daughter. The border originally was supposed to sort of represent the flash from taking the picture; but I had this beautiful thread that matched the fabric perfectly. So, of course I had to use it! I like how it turned out.

This is not my first Calvin and Hobbes embroidered piece. I wanted to do this because it sort of represents my attitude towards life. Despite prodding the kids to smile properly for pictures; I always have to make a face for at least one. The red mustaches were a perfect border. Originally I was going to use black thread to outline some of the mustaches; but I didn't like how it looked. In the end I just stitched around the edges in a matching thread so you could barely see it.

I sent a pm with the swap Questionaire but it doesn't show in my outbox. Is that normal?

You have to manually click on the "save to outbox" box for the system to save a sent message.

I received from Sharalee earlier this week; but it has been a super busy week at work. Which equals super tired me. I was finally able to pick up my mail last night.

Look what she made for me!

The first patch is from my bees theme.

And this 3D beauty is from my gnome theme. Isn't he adorable?

Not only did she make me two awesome patches; but she sent me so much cool fabric and little doodads. Even brads that spell out my name!!!

Thank you so much for swapping with me Sharalee!!!

I really love the Steampunk hairdo. I never would have thought of that. So awesome.

Okay. I'm not quite sure how to say this....but you guys are looking at the BACK of the owl!  Shocked Below is a picture of the front of the patch. I'm pleased that you guys like the back. I surely hope you like the front as well. The original painting was done by Cori Dantini. You can find her at Etsy. This particular painting is purchased; but you can see the pin here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/116249234112379257/

I hope you guys see this correctly. On my screen it is sideways and squished.
