I made my first pocket shrine!
I made it for my boyfriend for his birthday in March. To give a little bit of background: He loves camels. There is a park near his house that has a giant camel in the playground area and when we were in high school our group of friends would make "pilgrimages" to The Shrine of the Golden Camel. When he went away to college he set up a mini shrine in his dorm room since he couldn't visit the real one on a regular basis. After losing touch for a few years he and I started dating in January and on our 3rd or 4th date we made a trip to the camel for nostalgia's sake. So, I decided to make this for him for his birthday, so that no matter where he goes in his life, he'll always have a part of the shrine with him.
This is the top of the shrine, I decoupaged it with pages out of rolling stone. I cut the letters for his name out of a Ketel One ad, and all the camels came from Camel ads.https://www.craftster.org/pictures/data/500/3514704-13-06_1755.jpg
Here is the inside of the shrine. I made the camel out of sculpey, my first time working with it. I did the Camel God using marbles and a really pretty brown/gold satin embroidered material that you can't see well. The bottom of the shrine is lined with sand that I "borrowed" from the actual shrine. The camel gave her permission since it was for her boy.
The front says "A more mellow camel".https://www.craftster.org/pictures/data/500/3514704-13-06_1756.jpg
Here is the bottom, another Camel Ad! I added "Emo Hero", because sometimes I call him my Emo Boy when his hair does this cute little thing.https://www.craftster.org/pictures/data/500/3514704-13-06_1757.jpg
I'm pretty proud of how it turned out, and he loves it which makes it that much better. After I gave it to him he kept saying "I have a pocket shrine!" He carries it with him everywhere and sets it up on his desk at work everyday.
Thanks for checking out my project!
