Have been looking for a good Thanksgiving Dress Up to do this month. There are several how tos on line for hats for both boys and girls, but nothing on aprons (that I found anyway.) Tried out several hat DIYs and refined this one http://familycrafts.about.com/library/projects/blthpilgrglhat.htm
Came up with the apron based on a party apron my youngest sister's Grandmother in -law used to make 30 some years ago. Mimi is long gone, but her craftyness was remembered.
For the apron: Mimi did this with printed cocktail napkins on point and colorful ribbon - but for Pilgrim Apron did this:
1. Cut 1 1/2 yard of ribbon or twill tape
2. Find the centers, place center of ribbon on center of one side of napkin.
3. sew in place, or glue or tape
If sewing in place, use 3 to 5 layers of napkins, then when the top napkin get soiled, gently tear it off and the apron is clean again.
Here is a brief overview for creating the cap:
Start with a 15 inch by 18 inch piece of white paper (construction paper works well)
Fold a 2 t o3 inch cuff brim on one side, Mark inside of back, cut on lines, punch holes at circles in back sections; and through brim and cap on each front side.
Cut two 18 to 20 inch ties and one 6 to 9 inch tie from twill tape or ribbon
Lace ties through holes - back shown
Fold down top edges of back outer sections
ready to wear and enjoy -
*if you like very specific tutes have a detailed step by step for the cap in a flickr album http://www.flickr.com/photos/glorioushats/sets/72157609674062013/
Thanks for looking and Wishing all a lovely day.
