1  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Cat From Cat Hair on: April 15, 2017 04:43:45 AM
This is nowhere near as good as what I've seen posted here, but it's my first proper attempt at felting and the material (cat hair) was rather hard to work with so be gentle!

Kitty looks like she doesn't approve of what I've done at all!

It took about 4 hours and I had trouble getting enough density...I don't know if it's because of the size?  The tail and ears in particular are still fairly soft.  I would appreciate any tips on this if you have them.  Perhaps I just need to spend more time.

I wrote a little more about this project on my blog.  Not sure if I have the patience to do it again, although I do have another bag of my tabby's fur waiting to be used!
2  COOKING / Dessert / Two more dessert "food arts" on: June 29, 2015 11:07:40 PM
Two more sweet crafts that I did lately.  The marshmallows were super-easy, I'd like to see this trend catch on!  The tutorials are linked underneath.

Polar Bear's Caf (Shirokuma Caf) Deco Marshmallows

The characters on the marshmallows are from the anime "Shirokuma Caf". I'm not a fan of anime at all usually but it's the cutest series ever and I really recommend it if you like animals at all.

Rilakkuma "Oreo" Chocolate Sandwich Cookies

This one was kinda a re-hash of an old recipe but this time I used my Rilakkuma cookie-cutters.  They make everything better, right?
3  COOKING / Dessert / Moomin cheesecakes on: June 16, 2015 09:41:13 PM
Another simple one, cheesecakes can be cut into any shape, it's really cool!  Next time I want to make a bunny one.

Recipe and tutorial here
4  COOKING / Dessert / Miffy Bunny Parfaits on: June 13, 2015 12:17:51 PM
These are really easy to make, and you can modify it however you like to make your favourite animal :-)

The detailed tutorial is here but it's pretty self-explanatory!
5  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Vegetarian Japanese Curry Bread on: May 30, 2015 09:24:51 PM
I love japanese curry bread so I was happy when I found out it's straightforward to make at home.  I also made it in the shape of Rilakkuma because I like making cute food for my blog.

The recipe for making curry bread is very long so please check it out on my blog if you're interested.
6  COOKING / Dessert / Bunny bear cupcakes on: May 18, 2015 07:46:34 AM
I don't mean to spam up this board but I've been making *a lot* of desserts lately.  I just used a box mix for this one but the hard part was making the decorations from chocolate and icing ^_^

A brief description of how I did it is here but it was really difficult so explaining is not really very helpful ^_^;
7  COOKING / Dessert / Bread and Bunny Pudding on: May 14, 2015 02:28:06 AM
Made this last night, I don't know if bread and butter pudding is common outside UK/Ireland? My canadian OH had never heard of it so I had to make it for him.  One of my childhood favourites.  And...I had to make it bunny shaped!

Recipe and more pics on my blog
8  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Cute falafel wrap recipe on: May 09, 2015 02:56:08 AM
I'm a bit obsessed with making all of my food into cute shapes but these falafel are delicious as well as adorable!

Ingredients:
(makes around 6 falafel)

falafel
1 can chickpeas
1 onion
1/2 cup wholemeal flour
1 egg (optional if you want to make it vegan, just leave out the flour)
1/2 tsp cumin
handful of fresh coriander
1 tsp minced garlic
salt, pepper and paprika to taste
nori for face details

to serve
wrap
hummus
sliced pickle
shredded carrot
tomato slices
lettuce

Instructions:

1. mix all of the falafel ingredients in a food processor until combined.
2. take a heaped teaspoonful of the mixture and fry on the pan with olive oil.  It should be quite flat, like a burger patty.
3. when it's cooked for about 2 minutes on both sides, remove it and cut it into the shape with a sharp knife.
4.  put it back on the pan and cook both sides until it's browned to your liking.
5.  cut the facial features out of nori and use hummus to stick them to the falafel.
6.  serve with wrap, hummus and suggested veggies.
9  COOKING / Dessert / Cute/kawaii desserts I've made over the past month on: May 05, 2015 06:06:51 AM
I've recently started trying my hand at making sweet things...my interest is cute and "kawaii" treats.  I went to a lot of themed restaurants in Japan and became addicted to the cute food I had there so wanted to recreate it at home.  Here are some of the things I've made over the last month or so (the tutorials are in the links):

Domo-kun chocolate caramel shortbread

Miffy-mallows

Gudetama lemon chocolates

Random sugarcookies

Totoro mini cakes

Gudetama pancakes

Gudetama pudding

I'm actually quite bad at baking so I'm finding it hard to succeed at some of my other ideas (macarons much???  They're impossible!).  Hoping to learn more and keep creating in the future :-)
10  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Cushion made from a japanese wall hanging on: February 09, 2014 01:12:24 PM
I got a cloth wall hanging with a print from one of my favourite artists, Imai Kira.  I was really tempted to colour it in so finally I gave in and also made it into a cushion because it was more useful for me...

I did embroidery and painting on it.

here's how it looked before:

There's a ton more photos on my blog post if you're interested :-)
